Oh, so now you get excited about a WayForward game.

They're doing the new Bloodrayne on PSN and 360, which is looking kinda Metroidvania-ish and should be out next month.

You might also be interested to know they made the good Thor game, which wasn't the ones on PS3, 360 or Wii, but the DS. They also made a Boy and His Blob on the Wii. Shatae: Risky's Revenge, Mighty Flip Champs and Mighty Milky Way for DSiWare. Also Batman: The Brave and the Bold for Wii and DS.

They get around on making pretty awesome, charming 2D games. Shantae for GBC was their first, but Capcom published it. Everything they make feels like some SNES classic, really. Bloodrayne and Aliens are the first to appear on a non-Nintendo platform from them to my knowledge.

Aliens borrowing from Metroid would be rather appropriate, given that Metroid's inspiration was Aliens.

    Metroid = Alien
Metroid II = Aliens - Space Marines, Samus faces down the a colody of Metroids and the Metroid Queen, Ripley finds herself in a colony filled with xenomophs and the Alien Queen. A child/hatchling is involved
Super Metroid = Alien 3, the elimination of Metroids, though Samus lives while Metroids die.
Metroid Fusion = Alien 4. Samus becomes part Metroid, on top of part Chozo and mostly human. Ripley is cloned to resurrect xenomorphs, but she's half-xenomorph herself.

Metroid Other M is more or less Aliens with the Space Marines. Except the black guy lives and all the other white and Asian people die. Oh and there's a traitor in their midst, who tries to sabotage the operation and he gets killed by a Metroid. Sounds familar. Face off with Metroid Queen, again familiar.

There's even a non-Samus allegory for Ripley and Newt in Madeline Bergman and MB, Bergman even sounds like Sigourney Weaver.

These references are also all over the Metroid Prime games, though they don't really borrow directly from any particular plot, just scenes are mimicked in some manner.

Oh, and Ridley - named after Ridley Scott

Never heard of 'em before, and none of those other games interests me in the least. They do seem like they really know their stuff though, the video was fantastic. Even the music seemed Metroid-ish, and yes I was well aware of the influences of Aliens on Metroid. (Still like Metroid better )

I actually had no idea this was only for DS and that it was coming so soon. Same week as Star Fox 64 3D. I guess, I'll add it to the pile since September is looking relatively slow for all but DS and 3DS for the most part.

I'll probably be on my upteenth playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution by then anyway.

No one played Alien 3 for the SNES or something?

It got pushed back to early October, likely to coincide more closely with Colonial Marines game. I'd be sad about that but I do honestly have plenty on my plate right now.

Its looking like an interesting twist on the Metroidvania, too, though its holding true to Aliens. There's the squad, they split up, they can be impregnated by face-huggers or caught and dragged off to the hive to be impregnated and you'll have to go and save them.

If there's a little Metroid II in it (go hunt down, kill off small nests) that would be nice as well, though I'm curious how equipment will work for a game where you control multiple characters like this.

Bloodrayne Betrayal is another Metroidvania from WayForward in the same month. They just announced another Mighty game for Nintendo, too, this one's coming to the 3DS in Europe first, though, it seems. They're pretty prolific right now.
