I mentioned I picked up a Super Famicom about a week ago; I've been messing around on it, and it's been great fun so far. I don't think it takes a genius to recognize that the console has one of the greatest libraries ever; hard to find a winner between it and the PS2.

I don't particularly have anything to speak about; I'm looking for games for it, but I doubt anything would really please me. Arcadey (certainly the console has wonderful RPGs, but I intend to mostly save those for when I'll understand them), not too hard, interesting (unique), and so on, but don't worry about that. Just talk about how awesome Super Nintendos are.

It's lovely that the local store has SNES games from just 105 yen (which, with coupon, is basically 55 yen games). On the other hand, PS2 games aren't much more expensive... I saw fucking Rez for 500 yen. I almost bought it right then, just to wait until I have the damn console. Shame that I don't feel like importing and modchipping my old fat to play local games, and getting a Japanese one would still cost $70+. The SNES I could resell to a store for more than the dude sold it to me for.

Wow nice grab there, mmmm games games.......
I found a video of "great super famicom games"
it is early in the morning and my brain is still on empty.... ;p

    Cotton 100%
    Majyuuou
    Magical Pop'n
    DoReMi Fantasy

found another video with American games, but you might fine the Japanese versions over there.....

    Pockey & Rocky
    Super PunchOut
    Kirby Dreamland 3
    super turrican 2
    yoshi's Island
    starfox
    super mario kart
    castlevania 4
    super mario world
    contra 3

all are some what "arcady" and if you find them, should not require much reading. Out of the Japanese games I have only played Cotton 100%, but I have played all the US titles and can tell you they are all good.

Kirby Super Star and TMNT IV: Turtles In Time need to be on that list badly. Although TNMT4 is more fun with friends. Also Super Metroid, because...it's Super Metroid. And Mega Man X if you're into that sort of thing.

The console came with Fatal Fury Special, SMW, Rockman X2 (because it's Japan, so he's Rockman, because it's Japan), DQV, some hilarious Muscle Brawl thingy which is made of homosex, and Axelay (so much good. so much frustrate.). Housemate picked up a hilarious Gundam F91 strategy action radar targeting I-don't-get-it before he left.

SMW I'm lovin' of course, Rockman I suck at as expected. DQV I haven't played with too much, but it's pretty easy readin's so far. Thinking Seiken Densetsu would probably be pretty easy too.

Super Metroid, while awesome, I've played on VC and don't really need to do again for the time being. For some reason, all of my runs after the first were really frustrating. TMNT, I mean, I don't think that even came out here.

Starfox, I mean, it's cool and all, but I never really got very into it, and it's kinda pricey (300 compared to 55). I'd rather play 2D shooters for the most part; and I mean, I suck at those anyway.

Wikipedia's article on it has a Japanese release date, so looks like it did. I kinda have to wonder what the Japanese thought about TMNT at the time.

Tiny Toon Adventures is fun and short, but it can get pretty fucking Nintendo Hard at times.

I have also heard very good things about Super Turrican but I haven't played it yet.

            NBA Jam: TE
Donkey Kong Country & DKC 2

I mean, I'm really not looking for suggestions. I just want to see some people talkin' 'bout SNES.

Tales of Phantasia was pretty fucking amazing for an SNES game. Not only were the graphics good, they had dubs for the characters. And I don't mean Star Fox/Peanuts style gibberish.

I also liked that they let you buy Repel-type items to avoid random battles, and you'd recover a bit of MP after each fight. It was overall more fun to play than the SNES Final Fantasies for me. Granted, the PSX remake looks and sounds prettier, but it's still awesome.

Also, Secret of Mana having 3-player coop blew my fucking mind. It baffles me to this day that other RPGs didn't explore that concept for years except possibly the Tales series.

I loved the NES and SNES, they where what I played when growing up and I would never have it any other way. I still remember getting Contra III for Easter (yes Easter) and played the hell out of it.... god it was hard ;p

聖剣伝説3 (Seiken Densetsu 3) Good luck finding this copy, though. You would have better lucking finding a ROM on the internet.

I believe スターオーシャン (Star Ocean) was also a really good game and weighed in at 48mbit and featured the S-DD1 compression engine.

As Armando stated, テイルズ オブ ファンタジア(Tales of Phantasia) is also a good game, but the fact you can get this for the PS, GBA and the PSP makes this a not so worthwhile pursuit, unless you insist on experiencing the 48mbit sweetness on the SFC with the same Flexible Voice Driver found in スターオーシャン.

If you want an interesting shooter and like the Macross universe, there's 超時空要塞マクロス スクランブルバルキリー(Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie)

I have a few of these in their original boxes and barely touched. Cost me an arm and a leg back in the early 90s though ($100-120 each brand new ... ugh)

There was additional tech on board the cartridges separate from the SFC unit. This is the reason why the .SPC rips you find on the 'net sounds scratchy and garbled ... it's because the whole code is doing the audio swaps on the fly and I don't know anyone that has yet figured out a way to capture the audio short of reverse engineering the link between the SFC and the cartridges and inserting a capturing device in between them.

Speaking of its ports, I'd stay away from the GBA version. Less screen size than the SNES + worse audio + no theme song and a really bad English localization. THe PSX version is really nice. The PSP version seems like a slightly upgraded version of it, but I wouldn't know.

You know what I'd kill for? The SFC of Ogre Battle (Episode 6 I think?) My brother *had* the SNES Ogre Battle but I don't know if he left it with me or pawned it off for some quick cash. I can't even find my Street Fighter Turbo Edition anywhere either ... *sob*

Yeah and Seiken Densetsu 3 was even better ^^ though you need an emulator and a translated ROM to play it.

Anyone else absolutely love Contra 3 btw? Why is it Konami hasn't been able to make a Contra game nearly as good since then I mean seriously?

EDIT: God damn I didn't even read the above posts (it's late) and I get beaten on both the games I mentioned lol. Ah SNES, those were good times ^^ (Link to the Past is *still* my favorite Zelda game)

So here's one I don't think anyone mentioned.... anyone here ever try Bahamut's Lagoon? Lufia 2 was also fucking *awesome* (the 1st game not so much) and has one of the BEST boss battle themes ever.

I played a bit of Lufia 1. I was so unimpressed by it that I never gave a thought at Lufia 2. Maybe I'll try it out one of these days.
