Re: Gamestop!
Probably some wishy washy emotional nonsense. We're not going to achieve global hegemony and the world peace without sacrificing a few billion innocent lives and conditioning the masses to all think alike.

The solution is of course mass genocide to thin the population, but for some reason that's not socially acceptable.

Re: Gamestop!
We could say that about any business, though. There are totally awful people that get into management and higher positions and do everything they can go prevent college-educated people or just plain talented people from moving up. Mainly because they fear someone with a college education, talent and a more contemporary skillset.Originally posted by Taskmage View PostI'm not saying all Gamestop employees are incompetent. I once had an accountant pushing lean manufacturing on the publishing process simply because he also had management responsibilities. He had no people skills, he just went to a seminar and heard this shit worked for many businesses. When you run a yearbook company, each client is a unique and special snowflake and its really hard to standardize a system for high school students teachers to adapt do. Not only that, its a piece of who they are. Lean manufacturing doesn't work there.
No matter what that bastard said, I was going to keep the clients quirks in mind. Each yearbook honestly has a personality all its own. If I saw a grossly misspelled dedication to a retired English teacher or a memorial page to a friend or teach that passed away - I was gonna make sure that looked good and the intent was passed on. I wasn't going to just let the errors sit because "the process" told me to. I didn't work at a news paper to treat publishing like a damn assembly line process.
I'd love to live in a world where we could get rid of all bad apples, but sometimes they just get too high up. They get there because the real world seems to value connections more than skill, ability or knowledge.

Meh, in my last few jobs it's been, "Well, we're forcing you to be here for eight hours even though we've got the work for four, at best, so be quiet and stay out of trouble and just get it done by the time you leave."
Better than having to do something pointless like count paper clips or something. And yes, I have been tasked with counting paper clips just to "keep busy." Let me tell you how much longer I lasted in that job. You can't always help it if you're a shift worker and sometimes there just isn't any work during your shift.

No, you're just making an ass of yourself, although that seems to be par for the course whenever we have a discussion about GameStop.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostDid I do it right?

Re: Gamestop!
You know, I've never had the luxury of having a job where i can "work" and my biggest concern of the day is what websites the company firewall prevents me from visiting, but if I did I don't think the people that worked that way would be much higher up than your average fast food employee.Originally posted by Taskmage View PostI am often tempted to apply at a fast food place just so I can show the people how to take a damn order or at least so some small segment of fast food patrons can experience the subtle pleasure of getting the food they paid for. Honestly though, what policy would make the lazy or incompetent people at the bottom stand up and do their jobs right? You must know what the average quality of applicants to Gamestop is; aggressively firing underperformers would only cycle through poor employees faster. At the wages offered, Gamestop positions attract roughly the same segment of the work force as the people mangling orders at the Burger King, only pared down for gaming interest and language proficiency.
Oh wait, did I just step on any toes here?
Let me fix that.
Herpdederp Welcome 2 gaemstop! Wut system are you pre-ordering The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for?
Did I do it right?

I agree it's not difficult. They have a computer screen with the info right in front of them.

Re: Gamestop!
Botched fast food orders are a major pet peeve of mine. I realize the job sucks and you must take a thousand orders a day, but it's not hard. There's no excuse for making me bring the food back for a correction literally two-thirds of the time, and that's an average of all the fast food places I've been to around here in the past year or two. I'm usually ordering for 4-5 people and they usually want things held from their sandwiches so I may be one of the higher difficulty customers, but come on seriously.

Re: Gamestop!
I can't work in food service. I have a food-related phobia, which sounds retarded, but is true. Obviously I can eat, but I have a lot of food-related issues and so I never apply for a position somewhere that I may have to handle food. Which can be limiting, of course, but those places generally suck to work and pay terribly so it's not much of a loss.
You'd think someone with prior military service would be a desired employee, but you could have fooled me.

Re: Gamestop!
In all seriousness, this thread has inspired me. I haven't applied to Gamestop yet. I'm sure they don't pay quite enough and I'd have to find some way to cut back while I look for a better job, but might as well put an app in, right?

More like there's a lack of good company policy regarding quality assurance.Originally posted by Etra View PostBecause every higher up in every single Gamestop = shit. amirite?
