I suppose Retro just opted not to make use of them.

Plus this is a re-introduction not just to older players, but to new players as well, no need to have so many characters when this is meant to be a revival. There are some of us that wish to forget that Donkey Kong 64 ever happened, too.
    .

That is a sad excuse to not make the game feature more characters to have fun with! They could have made the rest of them playable after completing the game once! The flawed reason of "reintroducing" is just as bad as NewSMBWii having two Toads instead of being creative enough to add a 4th playable character that isn't another Toad/shroom (like Daisy. She was in Mario Party, why not in a sidescrolling Mario game? Nintendo is lazy and sexist, I tell you!
Why do you think they didn't bother to add online co-op to it? If Sakurai was in charge, he would give it as much hard work and great quality like SuperSmashBros.Brawl. )

There IS a need for those characters because if Nintendo really cared about ALL of the fans and players, they would include the rest as playable, even if they have to unlock them first. Now I wonder when the next Donkey Kong game will be released. hmmm maybe in 3 years? By then people will be busy with other things.

This really is a pathetic year for Nintendo. A new Metroid that left a bad taste, a recycled Super Mario Galaxy, and a short sighted Donkey Kong game. Revival smival, newcomers heads won't explode seeing more playable characters to choose from. Does Nintendo think new players are that stupid?

OK then, let's go look at your game of the year Castlevania: Harmony of Despair for a second.

Recycled assets and levels from every Iga Castlevania ever.
No exploration, timed levels replace them.
A gear/XP grind that would make Circle of the Moon seem tame
Characters so stripped down its pathetic - but hey, we have lots of stripped down characters to play!
Incomplete game stringing you along with sparse, overpriced content that should have been in the game anyway.
The more people that join, the more HP the bad guy get and their damage modifiers skyrocket. Nice artificial difficulty!

And even though its an online grindfest, once someone leaves, no one else can join. I mean, shit, even Wii online games let new players join and fill gaps and NWFC is archaic as all get out. This is an XBL game and that shit got past QA?

Metroid Other M, with its narrative foibles alone being the primary setback, kicks the shit out of your game..

Mario Galaxy 2 is picks up on difficulty where the previous game left off. Oh, and its the top rated game of 2010 as well as the second-highest rated game of all time among critics.

New Super Mario Bros Wii has gone quadruple platinum in Japan and about 17 million copies worldwide. I guess Nintendo must be doing something wrong, considering its inching closer and closer to being the most successful Mario game of all time. Its also the top selling game in Japan for Wii this year. I guess they must really like Mario.

Kirby's Epic Yarn and DKCR have enjoyed similar levels of critical acclaim, while not as high as Galaxy 2, still nothing to sneeze at.

Nintendo has more or less owned this year on platformers and to think Sonic Colors and Epic Mickey haven't been to shabby, either.

People shouldn't be spoiled by the later games! Castlevania fans are okay with basic abilities! Simon only had whip and subweapons and no healing items back then, and it still plays fine today! There are plenty of characters and enough abilities to play in fun ways! And there is enough time to visit all the rooms and beat the boss! If people mainly play for gear/grind, they are making it seem like work instead of fun.

Characters are more balanced now, yes some like Soma are overpowered if you use certain weapons, but its under the players control how hard or easy the game is. If everyone had everything from their games, there would be no challenge at all.
That's why Harmony of Despair is great because it is a mix of traditional and metroidvania styles. And it is the hardest Castlevania to date, especially when you start fresh.

online is a very sensitive infrastructure. Nintendo has yet to have a game that displays a 2-D game with millions of dots at the sametime with a real-time castle, no loading between rooms, enemies and boss fully active, and player can zoom in and out in real-time, plus 6 players co-op! Wii can't handle Harmony of Despair as it is!
Metroid Other M, with its narrative foibles alone being the primary setback, kicks the shit out of your game..
opinion, mew. Most people aren't playing Other M anymore and don't plan to again. So much for replay value, mew.

what did you expect? It's Mario. Like Call of Duty, overexaggerated fanbase always makes more sales regardless of how stale or recycled the game is. It's like Zelda. Ya those games have been okay but people would have to be FANATICS to believe they are the best game ever.

fanatics will buy Mario even if Nintendo would give them the same game with a different title. That's how delusional the Nintendo/Mario fanbase is.
Kirby's Epic Yarn and DKCR have enjoyed similar levels of critical acclaim, while not as high as Galaxy 2, still nothing to sneeze at.
And yet Nintendo continues to suffer from lack of top quality 3rd party games.
Nintendo has more or less owned this year on platformers and to think Sonic Colors and Epic Mickey haven't been to shabby, either.
And yet still nothing of value that would convince people (that want greater fun, online and replay value standards) to buy a Wii. And Wii will never get the best upcoming rpgs and mmorpgs, it's really a console for casuals that don't play often and people seeking weightloss solutions.

Even someone I know who is like Mario's #1 fan, has yet to use their Wii for months. I think they got Donkey Kong, but after that for about a week, it's back to their PS3.

Jenova, you wouldn't know gameplay depth if you were experiencing it.

          Lol. That is all.

Your entire posts are (erroneous) opinions, unlike BBQ's.

Are you sure you aren't speaking of yourself and the games you blindly follow?

Or maybe it really just is the fact that Mario, Call of Duty and Zelda are games that are that good. I mean, people regard Mario Sunshine as "bad" by Mario standards and if that's a bad day for Nintendo, many third parties would love to have that kind of bad day.

Metroid Other M is "bad" by Metroid standards, but there are companies that would kill to have productions with that kind of polish, seamless play and presentation.
