Do they even fail that frequently though? I bought my PS2 used from EBGames in 7 someodd years I haven't had an issue with it.

$80 sucks for an extended warranty on a device like that, but do you really need it at all?

I'd say your PS2 was a fluke, a lot of those can be set out in well-ventilated areas and fail mostly because they were designed to fail. PS2's failure rate was was almost as bad as 360's has been the last four years. Both only ever got addressed when a class-action lawsuit came into play.

All it takes to fix one is tweak a white disk inside the PS2's DVD drive and they've wanted to charge the value of the console to fix it when it launched. It got cheaper over time, but it was absurd to pay for repairs no matter what.

PSP hasn't been so bad, the main concern would really be damage to the screen or the analog nub, but that's about it.

Actually every Sony product I've ever bought has performed admirably. My only beef with my PSP is the stupid battery can't hold a charge anymore but that's easily replaced.
