So wait, do you still need to put the disc into the drive to alert the system that you actually have the game and then take it out, or does it just automatically load from the HD. If it just loads from the HD, who is to say that somebody won't go to blockbuster just to rent up a bunch of games and install them to the HD.

EDIT: Upon further thinking, it'd be awesome if Netflix had a system so you could download games direct to the hard drive and they'd delete themselves after so many days unless you rerent or buy them.

Yes you put the disk in, press Y and choose install to HDD, then next time you want to play the game, just put the disk in like normal and press A (if you ahve turned off auto load) and if the game is already installed on the HDD, it will run off that.

The 360 checks the disk to see what it is, then loads the game from the HDD< and stops the DVD drive from spinning all together.

Sorry if that was posted in this thread I must've missed it, I only see TGM talking about how to install the games nothing about if the system checks the disc or how it actually works.

As I said in a earlier post I haven't really looked into anything about "The Big Dashboard Update" since I have the 20GB hard drive. I'll be upgrading it today, so I was just interested in learning about it now since I can't go to xbox/video game sites at work.

I got pwnd last night when I tried to install GoW2 6GB+ and of course I only have 4GB left on my 20GB HD. I only have about 2-3GB of actual stuff installed so the rest belongs to M$ lol.

2 things:

1) The netflix thing is AWESOME! I've already watched 3 movies through the instant queue.

2) What's the purpose of installing to HD? Faster load times? If that's the only benefit, then out of the 6 games I've got (just got the 360 a few weeks ago) only Fable 2 would really make a difference.

faster load times, and less stress on the DVD drive, but yeah I would only use the HDD install for games like FPS and games where load times where bad (aka Sonic)

Maybe sports games just because sometimes they have Disk Read Errors or Dirty Disk Errors when you are playing and that is just annoying. I know alot of my EA games have DDE's and 95% of the time there is nothing on the disk. This makes me want to get the new CoD because I'd have DDEs on CoD4 and Battlefield: Bad Company.

I've heard Sonic's (and Halo 3's) load times are actually WORSE when installed.

So people using the 360 for FFXI, hows that working with the new save to hard drive upgrade? I know when I played FFXI on my old 360 the disc would get damn hot. I might have to break down and try and find all my 360 discs and install it on my 360. My graphics cards are really starting to act up on my puter and with Christmas around the corner I just don't have the cash to be laying out for new hardware.

I have not tried it, but it cant hurt ;p

install FFXI like normal, then after its all updated, install the disk through dash menu, and once FFXI is started, it shuts down the DVD drive.

less power being used
less noise
and less stress and wear on DVD drive

I see no problems in this at all ^.^

I just remembered the perfect game to be installed to the hard drive...Lost Odyssey. Anybody tried installing that one yet? I was interested in it until I remembered it was 4 discs. Just because I went through 2 copies and it still skipped through alot of AMVs and froze up in some as well.

On a sidenote I installed GoW2 and Fable II yesterday to my new 120GB HD.

Yes I have but when I have went to run it, I've had freezing issues. I haven't looked into it because I'm pissed off at my son over the game. I sold him my xbox and the account it had so I'm starting new on my current xbox. Before I sold it to him I told him that I couldn't sell it until I was done with Lost Odyssey. He was like "Oh mom you just get a memory card and transfer the data.......blah blah blah." I told him I didn't think that worked and he assured me that it would be fine...yadda yadda yadda. I believed him.....never again. I could not transfer my save to my new account and I was damn near done with the game. For the people who've never played it, its 4 discs long and there is a LOT of grind to it if you are anal like me. ALL of my characters learned every single ability and were usually 15 levels higher than they needed to be for the area at all times. Thats a LOT of grind in this game. So my options are to start clean (which is totally depressing) or play whenever the jerkoff isn't on my old account. Never again!

dont blame you, that happened with me, on XenoGears, back in the day, is why I never finished it ;p

but I plan to soon, because its a great game.... and I should finish XS ep2 and play 3 as well
