Back at GDC while everyone was waiting for yet another intense battle from across the booths between Sony and Microsoft, Epic Games and Microsoft Games Studios unveiled their poorly-kept secret for 2008: GEARS OF WAR 2 would be shipping, unsurprisingly, in November 2008. Though no actual gameplay was shown, a brief teaser was accompanied by some intriguing tech demos showcasing the improvements Epic had made to their Unreal Engine 3, a technology which is slowly becoming more Xbox 360-centric. Sure, it was anticipated, but this news was certainly celebrated among the gaming hardcore, a demographic practically embodied by the GEARS OF WAR pedigree.

The plans for more gory fun were made public at GDC 2008, with the official unveiling of GEARS OF WAR 2.
The first game met with critical and commercial success becoming an early darling of this new generation. Though some argued it did nothing new, most everyone agreed that it was, for all intents and purposes, a solid and perhaps nearly-flawless game. Whatever you consider it critically it's hard to deny how intense of an experience GEARS OF WAR was, and that is something Epic surely plans on captitalizing on for the heavily-anticipated sequel.

GEARS OF WAR became one of the earliest success stories of the generation, selling over 4 million copies on Xbox 360 by early 2007.
So here we are a few months later and Epic finally treats us to the very first footage of GEARS OF WAR 2. Being the gamer-friendly developer they are, it would appear they refused to skimp on footage, opting to deliver a more solid look at the game than a simple teaser. Good on them, since E3 isn't for a few months and the press likely won't have their hands on the game until July.
Without further ado (and you all know how much I love the ado), here's the first gameplay footage of Epic Games and Microsoft Games Studio's GEARS OF WAR 2, coming exclusively to Xbox 360 in November 2008, probably followed by a lukewarm PC release in Summer 2009.

EDIT: If you own have access to a 360, I highly recommend downloading the Marketplace version. I had to sneak into my sleeping housemate's room to see it, but it was well worth it. Far superior visual quality.
Please discuss.
