Re: Blu Ray coming to the 360

Ah I remember the days of buying my Betamax player. /sigh Then I had to buy a VHS player that was the size of small tv for god's sake. LOL Oh and let's not forget a laser disc player too!

How about back in the day when you would rent a VHS tape and something would happen to it. You'd have to pay the place $70+ for it! Anyone been to Blockbuster and rented Blue-Ray movies? They charge you $1 more to rent them. I know its not much but its the principle of it damn it. LOL

lol ya i remember that. I miss beta (so good) speaking of I miss old school records (still sound sharper thn CD's.) Damn technology for evolving.

HD TV's are going to be rushed in here soon (at least in NA) Major television companies are being forced to switch to HD broadcasting. That and decent (not top of the line) HD TV sets are going for under 700 bucks now (have seen some lower end ones advertised at 250 bucks with 720-1080 support.) Makes me cringe knowin i Bought both of mine for 2K+ each. (of course they are sony and not (insert low end name) )

Plug that 360 into an HDMI connection to an HDTV and go go High Def!!!

We eventually bought two and migrated off the PS2 - you will love it.

You can't really compare VHS to DVD and DVD to BR.

The change from VHS to DVD was huge. You went from bulky cassettes to slim disks. You went from an image that often required adjustment and could be grainy, with distorted sound and video, to one that was almost always clear, and much easier to use. You went from something that needed to be mechanically rewound after each viewing to a disk that could be instantly stored and put away. You went from something which could only go from point A to point B to something which could near instantly jump around to any point on the disk, allowing complex menus and additional content besides just video clips.

Even comparing laserdisc to DVD to DVD to BR isn't accurate, as laserdiscs were freaking huge. 45s to CD singles also aren't really apt.

We really haven't seen a media conversion like this before. This isn't really a matter of going from an old, rusty seeming format to something much cleaner, smaller, and more capable. It's an improvement to those who can take advantage of it, but other than a slightly sharper image (which many people will not really notice), or clearer sound (which most people won't have the equipment to truly hear) it's not a huge improvement. We're not going from dirt roads to paved ones, we're going from one type of asphalt to a smoother one.

HD will not 'get big' until it's simply easier to obtain than old media, because most people simply don't have reason to buy it.

Argh. When are people going to figure this out.

It's not forcing people to buy HD TVs.

It's not forcing people to switch to dish or cable.

The DTV switch is to open up bandwidth space for emergency transitions, as well as new types of wireless services (that whole auction thing with Verizon and Google not long ago was about this)

Ya when I needed a new monitor back around Christmas '06, I decided to get a 28" HDTV and use that. I absolutely love the versatility especially since my computer is in my bedroom now. I paid $1200 for that tv and now you can get it for around $650. Ended up buying one for my son too so he could get rid of the cluncky 27" he had in his room and he ended up hooking his computer up to it too.

Then this year our 60" DLP took its final dump after 5 shot tubes. Under the lemon clause we got reimbursed for it. Back when we bought it, it was a display piece and was on clearance. We took the refund, put $500 to it and got a 52" Sharp Aquos LCD. Then about 2 months later they came out with the 120Mhz refresh rate on the new Aquos series.

I'll never go back to anything other than LCD and as soon as the prices drop on Blu, I'll never buy another DVD either. The Blu on my PS3 and my Aquos LCD = AWESOME! Now if I could just get my daughter to move out so I can sit and watch movies in the dark late nights I'd be one happy camper! (She sleeps on the couch and goes to bed at 9pm. ><)

My bro has a 360, and as much as I'd love my own I'm waiting.

Why? Because they're still charging an obscene price for the Elite, and not one damned model so far has (and I doubt it ever will) built-in Wi-Fi like the Wii and PS3 do. I'm not paying another $130 for the stupid adaptor on top of everything else.

Yeah Wi-Fi would be nice cuz it would alleviate the only remaining wires in my house aside from power cord lines lol.

Truthfully, it has to be admitted that if the 360 wants to compete with the PS3 on the graphical level it will eventually have to go to blue-ray even if they come out with the rumored Xbox720.

It may be 3years before that needs to be done since the PS3 game developer's just stop at 360 quality and refuse to push the games limits beyond that. If the developers start utilizing the larger depth the PS3 can offer then the 360 will be forced to either adapt or upgrade. By upgrade I mean the rumored 720 and adapt I mean outside BR device.

360 already competes with PS3 on a graphical level. They're not in completely different ballparks.

Re: Blu Ray coming to the 360

Um... PS3 has more processors and BR discs, that put it's capabilities beyond 360. You can't say that it competes with it if neither system is being pushed remotely to their peaks. My point is that the peak of the PS3 is higher than the 360.

I can't lie, atm I play my 360 more than my PS3. Hell, atm, the only thing my PS3 has been good for is the BR and collecting dust.

The thing is, though, if both systems were fully utilized and pushed to their limits the PS3 would surpass the 360 as of right now. The proof of such capabilites is in it's predecessor the PS2. The PS2 wasn't pushed to it's limit until the regular Xbox and it competed even then... That is just phenomenal.

So you can bet with the dormant capabilities of the PS3, if developers actually start to unlock them, it will become more of a powerhouse and less of a novelty.

You can argue that the PS3 has more capability than the 360, but the fact remains that there are just as many fantastic looking games on one than there are on the other and we currently don't know if that'll change. Sure, there are unfair cases like poorly-executed ports, but I can only think of one PS3 title that blows any 360 game out of the water...and it does the same for every other PS3 game as well.

It certainly may change over time as the platform matures. If you showed me God of War II back in October 2000, I would have punched you in the face and told you there was no way it could be a PS2 game. In my opinion however, it's crazy to imply that PS3 is so far miles ahead of the 360 visually and we have no solid proof that we'll be seeing a huge gap at the end of this generation.

I hate to quote myself, but I already, in essence, said that. Kinda hard to compare the games right now if the developers stop once they get to 360 quality. I have placed both Turok on the PS3 and Turok on the 360, both on HD T.V.'s, and they looked identical.

Game comparison now is a mute point. It's capabilities I'm argueing not the actualities that have been presented by the developers.

                              To make higher resolution models and textures doesn't always make a better looking game tho. Look at God of War 2, it's only using Ps2 technology but it looked so damn good, even better than some 360/ps3 titles out there imo. >_<;
