Re: Why does Square love to tortue ppl?
FF9 is beautiful in it's nostalgia. Practically everything in the game is a reference to something in a previous FF. That said, the game would have been a million times better if Zidane's Bandit ability actually worked. The fact that you can get it so freaking early in the game should be a warning sign to anyone.
I also happened to love 8. It was a pretty decent romance (big surprise most guys didn't like it @_ @) and Squall was actually a very good character. One of the few in the series to show real growth throughout the game. Best of all, it was even somewhat plausible (well, up until the crap with Ultimecia...)
However, like 7 it was simply way the hell too easy. 8 Was the easiest of them all thanks to it's broken limit break system. You *really* have to suck to not be able to renzokuken almost everything in the game to death >_>p
Lately I'm finding even the past FF's were fairly easy. The only games that still give me any kind of challenge are FF1 and 2 and even then...
EDIT: Jumping the gun much BBQ? I liked X, but the "Interactive Movie" comment stems more from the fact that you spend so much time just watching the characters talk with a bit of interaction here and there. I beat it in less than a week with hardly any effort (you can't even lose the last boss battle! perma-Auto-life ftl...) That's not to say I didn't enjoy the story or the characters ( I especially loved the night scene with Tidus and Yuna in the lake ^_^ very cute) but come on, to quote EGM on FF1 origins "The game is so easy a shoe box filled with dirt could beat it." The sidequests were at least good though. Blitz ball FTW, best freaking mini game EVER (assuming you don't use either Jecht Shots... Jecht shot = shooting fish in a barrel.)
Haven't tried the Prince of Persia sequels either. And what's wrong with the concept of Ashe going mad with revenge? It was what she wanted for so long, and then the classic cliche "No, I must do the right thing!" kicks in.
Lastly, MGS and Xenogears both own hard. Damn Square for being assholes and screwing over the CT team yet again with the Xenosaga series. Good as they were, their original plan would have been much better I'm sure. Don't even get me started on the steady destruction of the Seiken Densetsu series -. -
