      - Buckle up my seatbelt and enjoy another 6 months-a year of waiting for the PS3 while playing XI and some other PC games.

I could go and buy a GC and a PS2 while I wait for the PS3 but I doubt I'll have enough time to play the games from both systems plus XI (money really isn't an issue since most of those games are really cheap now), but it seems so dumb buying a PS2 when the PS3 can run those games that I really don't know about that.
      It's really annoying.
Buy a Wii, get the Gamecube games you wanted, and buy the PS2 games you wanted, and wait for the PS3 to play them?

The Wii can play all Gamecube games, so if you can wait its release in your country, there's really little point in buying a Gamecube this late in the game (and this is coming from a hardcore Nintendo fanboy). The only reason not to buy a Wii instead of a gamecube (Price difference aside), is if you're not interested in anything the Wii has to offer.

So, if you chose to buy a Wii, you'd still be able to play those games you were wanting to try on the GC, plus be able to play Wii games, and Virtual Console games.

According to your post, you feel the same way about the PS2 and PS3 (Why buy the first when...). In that case, purchase the PS2 games you want to play, and store them for the 6 months you're waiting on the PS3. When you can afford the PS3, go for it, and you'll have the Backwards compatibility (hopefully...)

This will allow you to have the best of all worlds, as you're not buying any redundant technology, and, for the next 6 months at least, you will only have to worry about console games for the one system, allowing you to play them and FFXI without stretching your free time too thin. Once the PS3 comes out though, I don't know what to tell you about free time ^^

I think this would be the best way to go, since the PS3 will still have the region coding limitations for PS2 and PS games then getting a second PS2 just for imported games doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

Now I need to make some research about modding chips or simply import a PS2 from japan (since imports are the only thing I'm gonna use it for after I get a PS3, plus I can pratice my japanese while playing those games), whatever is faster/more reliable.

Yep, that's pretty much it, the virtual console games are tempting, but considering I'm more interested on those GC games I didn't play than I am on any Wii games (specially since I'll buy a PS3 for sure, it's only a matter of when I'll be able to get one), then buying the Wii seems kind of a waste.

Also, after playing the games I wanted to try, this GC (or Wii) would have the same fate my old GC had (gave it away to my nephew, and the one I'd buy this time would go to my cousin most likely), so I'd only keep it until I got the PS3 really.

Well except the fact that a GC is dirt cheap, especially used. You can find them pretty easily.

I mean besides playing Link with a Wii, you're looking at almost by historical definition crappy launch games.

So one you get your next-gen fix, 80% of us are going to be playing ps2/gc games.

If ps3 wasn't in most obvious supply shortages, those with a hankering to play all the ps2 games they miss would love it, for possible upscaling to HD, faster load times, and whatever softwar gimick they can stick in there.

Most likely they can do the Xploder HD trick showing at germany and then some.

I wonder if Wii can do that trick.
