I think this is why we'll only see the PREM. edition's till before christmas, then anything after that ill just be the CORE only and you'll have to buy the extra's.
Atleast, that's my going on it, what do you guys think?
It's a possibility. I wouldn't like it to happen but they would save themselves some $$ if they did it. Every company loses a good chunk of change on a system when its released and MS has the $$ to throw around. So that kind of makes me wonder if they would stop distributing the premium after Christmas. With the shortage this would piss a lot of gamers off. Then they would lose customers and any gain would be lost.

I remember reading an article a while back on the differance between the X-Box and PS2. One of the problems with the X-Box was that because it was essentially a gaming pc with components developed by differant companies, they had no way of making the cost of the system chaeaper. Meanwhile, Sony pretty much develops the whole system (they work with other companies on the chips and such). That's why they were able to make the mini versions of the PS2 and PSX. Where's the mini version of the X-Box?
I'm not knocking the X-Box or X-Box360. God knows I'd buy one if I had the money, but it's no secret that Sony makes more money on their system sales than Microsoft, but one could argue that it's easier for Microsoft to make money on their Games sales, too, as its probably easier for developers to make games for the X-Box than PS2. However, that's just speculation.
It's not like it's really a big deal for Microsoft but, I do find it funny. They really should have gone for a pricetag similiar to the one announced for the PS3. But they were so adamant about being cheaper and more available than the PS3 that they cut the sale cost. I really don't think M$ is sweating it though, and will probably gain more than enough profit in the long run to even really care.
Yea, but, I thinik the main point of this system is cutting the Preimium after the pre-sales have gone though. I had a discussion about this with a co-worker, and we both agree, that producing the preimium bundle back is alot more expensive then it is to just ship out cores. I expect we'll see mostly core's on sheleves in FEB.
Being in Marketing that sounds like a classic sale method we use. Offer a new product with a decent price cut for a few weeks, gets the sales base started quickly. Usually only use that method if we see a week coming were it's sales look like they are not going to meet what we expect. After that the product goes on its own without the extras.
So I agree after the christmas rush and all you'll probably only see the core system. As far as question of which is easier to code for X-Box is no easier then PS2, they both have their faults that are addressed during the compiling process of the code. The XBox is far more limited in it's Bandwidth which is likely part of the reason for FFXI never coming to it. The PS2 has a limited memory size for transfering data but an extreemly huge bandwidth, this allows for developing more complexity but getting the complexity while also reducing load times becomes a challenge.
For example of what I'm stating you can see in Halo and Halo 2 for the XBox and probably the best example for PS2 would be SOCOM 3 that I know of. The XBox hides the small bandwidth in games like Halo and Halo 2 by doing many sectoring of a large level, the points were the golden glow occurs they are using a little bit of a seemless loading method here. Basically the map itself is loaded completly in the game but the objects such as the enemies or allies are loaded in sections.
SOCOM 3 for the PS2 you see it's problem in that as massive as it's maps are each loaded is nearly 1min. or 2min. long or longest I've had being 4 min.
That's something the XBox 360 and PS3 are resolving this time. How easy each is to code though is still something I'm totally sure with though, design wise XBox 360 is demanding the developers to use the same old coding but to code something a great deal more complex. PS3 however has gone a little differently they want something much more complex but are resorting to a development base to make it easier to code for by use of a special Workstation, the Workstation design allows for upgrading of functions so it is extreemly scalar in design.

If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft lost around $116 per Xbox, and Sony lost somewhere between $80-110 for each Playstation 2 before the Slimline version was released. Of course, Nintendo still refuses to sell consoles at a loss. I wonder why Nintendo is still the most profitable of the three companies?

Of course, Nintendo still refuses to sell consoles at a loss.
And yet the gamecube was by far the cheapest of the three (though less technologically advanced) and from what I understand the revolution is supposed to be the same way. Plus, I can hardly tell a difference in capabilites b/w a gamecube game and a ps2 or xbox port.

Heh, I did that in my younger days. I had a snoot full and I logged on to our groups' forum. I proceeded to go into a tirade about righting some wrong in the video game industry. LOL The next day I had a vague recollection of logging on my computer but that was it. So when I joined our groups' irc chat, I got a lot of ribbing. It seems my post was actually very good! I had made a lot of valid points but the spelling.........omg........LOL Someone dechipered it and posted so that people could read it without hurting themselves. LOL

Indeed. Just compare the two versions of RE4. (I did it too.) The PS2-version, you WILL in the later levels get a lot of slagging (sometimes, a door you open will take 5 seconds to get through the door-opening/closing scene). If you play the PS2-version all the way through without stopping for a while, it likely WILL freeze up.
The Gamecube-version has better graphics and better FPS. It won't freeze up either.
Btw folks, I would say this is a marketing ploy long before we thought about it. Microsoft knows for a fact the HDD is going to be required for the majority of the -360 games, however they also knew they would lose a bit of money per system they sold. So they figured they'd on their pre-Christmas shipments, let out two different deals-knowing everyone would buy the latter, paying an extra $100USD. And then, *BOOM*... only the Core system gets sold while selling the additional HDD for $50-$100 probably.

Umm, I beat RE4 in about a span of 14 hours, which was in 2 weeks time, almost playing non stop because both my roomate and I were playing different games saves, didn't have a single problem with it.
