I looked through this posting, but didn't see the important question of: When is it being released? Did I miss it?

OH! To all you people who think the xbox360 scratches disc's. Well It does.

          BUT!

Only if you "shake it" by moving it from stand up position, to the laying down position, and repeate!.

Now, let me ask you this, who in their right mind would shake a system, that has a CD in it?

Re: Xbox360 Information, you ask, I answer.

Actually many games look "crappy" and well worth the "launch game" suckiness quality. While it's a big jump from xbox and ps2, they're on their way out, so it's really goes without saying, but most look no better then an average PC game rig, which is where the sad part is.

Most games are quick ports, either from pc and/or XBOX. You have your super bad ports like quake4 to the "not to shaby" looking perfect dark and cameo. Gotham racing is made by Microsoft, so it better be the most nice looking of the bunch.

On the bug issues....well there is a rate on all mass produced products, what's important is the PERCENTAGE of them that needs to be returned and/or replaced.

The problem is...it seems pretty big...anywhere from 8%-15% unofficial numbers(obvious MS isn't going to anounce it with the way their PR is going now). That's pretty bad...even for launch... you want a product that's 2% or less...4% at most.

This is further worsen by the fact that there isn't enough 360's going around with their DOG(delusions of grandeur) idea of a "world wide release" to further lower the numbers...not only do people expect to get it replaced in the next 2 months(at eariliest for some), but that they have to ship it back because stores are on -200 boxes backordered.

The problems itself, revloves around mostly the over heating issue, and the live issue and now the new "scratching DVD" issue(more coming in folks).

The heating issue: is a double edge sword... The power "brick" is one massive power supply and from reports when it heats over the limit(some have gotten it so hot as that it acts as a nice heater for their bed), games tend to crash because they require juice the power supply can't give( the hotter it is, the more inference with power output). So it's not surpising that Gotham racing is the most often crashed because it's most likely the most CPU/GPU intensive game on the launch titles.

On one hand, it's an easy replacement, since it's not part of 360 itself...on the other...well if launch games are giving problems..what happens when summer hits or more powerful games releases in the future that require MORE power...ouch.

The more minor(less serious?) problems are live, which is kicking people out..maybe overheating, maybe just live itself, but the kicker is, games that are even single player(not playing with other people) if live disconnects you are kicked out of the game(ouch I had that 3 times)...most harmed people are wireless WiFi people that get sporatic connections.

The latest one just in, is that the DVD can get scratched(and maybe even break @.@) if you move around your 360 while the game is running. It's mostly common sense, but really...it needs to be fixed or something. My co-worker destoried his copy of GUN like that...and it wasn't really shaking, more like moving.

To end it, weither by management, or by luck, MS shouldn't of tried to release it(world wide at that) for this season.

Anyone with a launch system 360. Even if it works fine, consider sending it in in the next few months anyway, before you're 2yrs down the road, and your power brick will make that shinny new game unplayable. I wish I had that foresight with PS2 launch systems.

This is why I bought a 1 year warrenty with EBGames. for only 36$. Hassle free. So when my xbox "breaks" in 11.5 months, I'll return it, keep my HDD, and get a new one.

That is, if I don' thave any problems with it in the meantime.

Kuu: I'll respond from your post about my experiences when I get back from class, I don' thave tim eto write a big response to it. It'll be up about 5:30 or so.

Re: Xbox360 Information, you ask, I answer.

My 360 has been on every day for at least 6 hours a day but usually more. Never had an overheating problem, was never kicked from Live, and I'll never have a scratching issue since I'm not stupid enough to MOVE MY SYSTEM WHILE ITS IN USE! Ya they need to fix that last one alright, only sell to people with fully functional brains. Personally 1/2 of your 8-15% doesn't even own a 360, they just like the attention they get by pretending they do. I've been on the game boards and caught several people lying about "their" 360 issues so I've lost faith in anyone reporting they have issues. The gaming community I'm a co-leader in has 200+ members and they all have 360's. No one has had an issue yet with their system.

So i'll take your word over the many many people and reviewers? Like all those koisk death boxes that got over heated to bits (I personally confirmed that one as idle chatter about the 360 buzz 2 bestbuys and 3 ebgames I think). For 360's sake, anything under an enclose box runs hot , but well... it's a console they should have tested it better. Even with half a brain, people(and their kids) will put it on carpets, next to heaters, to your 800 watt home enternment center(they actually want you to!).

It seems MS decide to cost cut, and rush it, because the "brick" test results would never have been "acceptable" with that kind of heat. A computer maybe, not a console.

As for reputable people...heck Ars technica's own 360 gets hot enough to burn fingers(though it did not crash on their tests)...don't take my word for it.

It's nothing new in the launch saga. It's just that M$ made it worse puffing their chest with their "rigeriously tested" and "meet all demands world wide" quotes. At least Sony's faulty PS2 they kept quiet.

I found it funny that M$ sometime or another quoted somewhere about not being like Sony and have the ps2 launch fiassco..and here we are, with the 360 going for 3x on ebay then the ps2 ever did...

Just because your 360 runs fine, doesn't mean other people are. Face some of the facts, M$ strutted around, and fell on their ass. Everyone falls(has their ever been a good launch system?) but it's funnier when you boasted beforehand.

For the record, our's is working fine on crash issues(brick is still hot as anything though) and luckly GUN was replaced after the scratching(smooth talking to the store). He found it kewl the the lights moved when you change positions, what can I say...he got curious...it's a console not a computer(and he does have half a brain and then some).

Well people that don't realize expensive pieces of electronics need tlc shouldn't own them. They put them in poorly ventilated areas and then piss and moan about overheating, ya thats intelligence. RTFM! As for the kiosks, it was the same thing. It's running 24/7 most of the time and its in an enclosed area....ya well guess what my computer would overheat under those conditions too. If people would RTFM, comprehend it, and do what it says at least 1/2 of the issues wouldn't even be there.

I still don't think that leaves much room for excuses. Even if there were issues with disc read errors with early PS2s, it wasn't so widespread that it's making news headlines with reporters who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

I'm not defending Sony, nor am I completely bashing Microsoft; the only one I can expect a well-made console at launch from is Nintendo. However, the problems listed by many are too numerous and rather widespread to not consider the Xbox 360 launch even the tiniest bit of a failure, even if 80% of early adopters are at home enjoying their 360s with little to no problems.

The PS2 had major issues with its launch systems. So much so that they just settled a lawsuit over it. Those problems couldn't be fixed. If your 360 is overheating all you have in most cases is move it to a well ventilated clean area not near heat sources on a hard flat surface and your good to go. So I really don't believe in this big hooey. Now give me a good refusing to read discs or problems with connecting to the internet or something more concrete and I'll jump right on the bandwagon. But these issues are just hooey.

You know, I had mine on for about 40 hours straight, yes, the power supply was a little warm, but that was about it. Then again, I have mine in a nice open space, where I keep it 69 degree's on the dot. I put a themo. on the PS and it came in at like 85 degrees I think? It wasn't warm at all, didn't lock up, nor did it cause a fire.

I'm sorry, but if you don't have the common sense to NOT move something with a free floating disc inside, WHILE IT"S READING THE DISC then you deserve to have your disc scratched. I don't care how "smart" you are with computers, if you don't know that moving something witha disc inside is a bad idea, then well, you need to go back to computers 101. That's DOA... and it's not release yet... You do realize we're talking about launch games.

There is no dispute that things will be better. As I said launch games.

Yes and no. PS2 NA release games were quick ports some, but was well into development for JP, so PS2 had a much better lineup by using Japan as a test bed. But yes no one said launch was great for anything.

PS2 has a fan blowing out heat. the "brick" doesn't. Reason for 360 over heat problems, and not PS2. Both launch. Ergo. If M$ engineers would of just make a louder noise about sticking a fan in the "brick" we wouldn't be discussing this, eh?

It's not a computer. It's a consumer device. People have less "common sense" as you call it because common sense dictates that it's much more resistant piece of equipment. Heck a good notebook can be moved around and not break disc. The PS2 if it scratched disks at least didn't break it in one move. Do you see me throwing my ipod around? No, but should I be extra careful? No. At very least they should have warning inside somewhere to cover their rear.

As I have said, launch systems are never very good. The thing here is. M$ in all it's infamious PR moves, hypicically did the opposite of every one of their quotes. They didn't meet demands, they did worse then PS2 launch fiasco, and their "world wide release" broke apart. Their "rigerious testing" is probably false. How can you not pick up a burning at touch situation. And on top of that, black friday.

It's not so much as how much shit happens, in this case it's how loudly you say it's not going to happen and then it does. MS needs a dose of modesty.

Sometime back I asked if Microsoft learned enough from their toss into the console biz. They are still green it seems.

Also, perfect dark is a nice game. Too bad my HDTV dvi's to PC and is nothing special i haven't seen. I expected more from rare for some reason.

They do, in chapter one. It states:

                              In Volume One:

To avoid jamming the DVD drive and damaging discs or the Xbox 360 console:
                              # Remove discs before moving the console or tilting it between the horizontal and vertical positions.

                              # Never use cracked discs. They can shatter inside the console and jam or break internal parts.

                              # When the console is vertical do not use discs that are smaller the standard DVDs and CDs.

Yes, DOA is not "a launch" game, but it was damn well supposed to, just as Elder Scrolls 4: Obvilion was supposed to be a launch game also.

Stand corrected...though not much of a compromise...so that means they knew full well and release it anyway.

DoA was suppose to be a launch, but things happen behind the scene we don't know. So the jury is out and pics don't mean much.

For example: Quake 4...looks really great...but still a bad port...it can't even lock the frame rate...

So who wants to play an fps that flickers and studders between 60-20 fps?

The 360 can produce the power to do it...but the port was rush obviously.
