    Re: Just giggled a little.

I've noticed they use a lot of neon colors to make up for their low poly counts. In that picture the pillars next to the dragon remind me of Disney's Herculese.

        Re: Just giggled a little.

The four new green dragons are a part of an story line that you begin to explore early in your character's career. From musing on Malfurion Stormrage's whereabouts in newbie Teldrasil quests, to lvl 20 Wailing Caverns, to lvl 50 Atal'Hakkar, to the endgame raid instance Zul'Gurub, and minor things all throughout.

WoW is still very young. No expansions yet, while FFXI has 2 and a third on the way. There are a few nearly-complete plot threads in WoW, and many just being hinted at in much the same way as RoZ, CoP, and ToAU are vaguely alluded to in old-world FFXI areas and quests. WHM AF and Tavnazia for example. Where FFXI has a 3 nations plots, Zilart and Promathia essentially complete.

I got as far as Promyvion with CoP, barely touched RoZ, only got to rank 7 in Windurst, so please forgive my ignorance. How much story is there behind the Wyrms? I don't think you need to know anything about their pasts to slay them, which seems to put them on a level with WoW's new dragons.

The PvP players could care less about this game's content. The PvP set is mostly uninterested in cut scenes (FFXI's strong point), "lore" (WoW is only slightly weaker in this, overall, IMO), or raid style PvE encounters and so don't care what this game has to offer. Ballista is mocked; it's not "real PvP" according to them. Their "real PvP" seems to be a system where killing your enemies is what is rewarded (as opposed to scoring a kill and then throwing rocks at a big chess piece I suppose.) From what I can tell, WoW doesn't really have that either, but you can fight other players whenever you want. Since FFXI doesn't offer the PvP gameplay they want, the PvE experience is irrelevant.

The PvE set have the same complaints about this game you always see from disgruntled FFXI players. "Too much waiting", "too slow", "no solo" etc. I doubt graphics will swing them. I imagine a fair share of them don't care for the cartoony look of WoW either, but keep playing because they enjoy the game. And a good number of them do like the look. I personally prefer FFXI's graphics to WoW's but I don't dislike WoW's a bit. How much does the look matter? To some, not much at all. Since this content hasn't been actually released yet, nobody can really say how difficult they are to beat. They may exceed Vrtra in difficulty, or they may be fall short of... whatever, I'm not familiar with HNM or WoW's endgame.

It's no surprise that they keep adding dragons as high end encounters; the WoW universe has tons of dragons. Six flights of them, and they're all an integral part of the world and it's history. MMORPGs before WoW or FFXI have added powerful dragons and gods as "content" for high level players. It's a coincidence. Even if WoW were the first to copy ideas from other games, why would that make it less enjoyable for people who haven't played that other game, have no need to play that game, and probably wouldn't enjoy that game?

literally people, get over your ff11 fanboisim. it's not like ff11 is the paradigm of what an rpg is. some of you act as if ff11 is the end all, be all, and no one else can compare. which tells me some of you haven't actually played much mmorpg games. tho the ff11 mythos and gameplay is very good and one of the best out there it sure as hell isn't a masterpiece. and once again, dragons have been a staple of any denomination of rpg gaming wether tabletop, traditional rpg on console/pc, or mmorpg for a lllllooooonnngggg time.

Could somebody post a picture of a dragon from FFXI. I've yet to see them, so I don't know what to compare WoW's or GW's too

The dragons awoke as part of the CoP storyline. Wherein I've yet to discover but I plan to find out.

Unfortunately this is true and only reflects on their immaturity and/or ignorance. They'll soon realize that this PvP utopia they lust for only rewards those who gank their kills and use other cheap methods for easy wins. It's only going to lead to a lot of frustration for all players who aren't "winning" with a higher turnover rate than Papa Johns' assistant managers.

Almost all, if not all, of WoW is cheap content, cheap thrills, cheap rewards, nothing satisfying. I've played it, I've maxed out a warrior and gone on all instance raids up to BWL. I had enough fun to string me along until I reached the end game but I wish it had ended sooner. The communities are fickle for the most part, the odd intellegent person you come across stands out like a sore thumb, and I found myself waiting for a party (like in FFXI) just to go on a raid or instance. I got tired of the same "kill this many of that monster" quests over and over to do anything solo. Now I feel like I'm ranting so I'm going to stop.

Oddly enough people pay $15 a month for that game. $15 a month to reach endgame in half a second and then feel important.

                    Re: Just giggled a little.

guild wars dragon looks great. It's a personal preference but I just don't like the way the carttony dragons of WoW look is all.

also, Bune, M6 dragons, etc. don't look all that great to me, but it could be because I'm so use to them. But the big dragons like vrtra, etc. look cool.

I do think the XI dragon look cool. Each games dragons are modeled to fit in with the games graphics. XI's look more real, because the game looks more real.

I didn't start this thread to diss WoW or say they copied FFXI, but the smiliarity was just too perfect, that's all. I played WoW for 5 months, so the remark I made was from a former WoW vet, as well. I just thought it was silly.

I think Bune is a wyvern, which would be a younger dragon if I remember correctly. They're smaller and their features are less pronounced.

Yeah. Bune is just a wyvern. Not sure about Guirvre. But anything higher than Guirvre (except Ouryu because he's in a level capped area) is a full-fledged dragon. I think even the dynamis ones in Beauc and Xarc are wyverns.

Usually a wyvern is a different "species" from a dragon. Two legs and two wings, like a natural creature would have, and a tail with poisonous barbs. Both FFXI and WoW go their own way with that. DRG wyverns have six limbs and WoW wyverns are winged manticores.
