Bit of a clarification. Apparently this is not a contract for 450 million bullets that they are storing and expecting to use. It's a contract with a company to provide the bullets on an as-needed basis and they are not obligated to supply more than 450M bullets. It's like if they had an all-you-can-eat cafeteria where they cut you off after 10 plates, the headline would read "DHS buys 10 plates of food for its employees every lunch" when that's really far from accurate. It's for however much they use. So the story is actually pretty bogus as a point of controversy, it just usefully highlights some underlying issues.

As long as that isn't a retcon in order to avoid public outrage that's relatively, kinda sort of good news.

I personally would question whether the entire Department of Homeland Security is a needful structure that we want to have around.

It isn't. It really and truly is not. The thing is a bloated mess and financial black hole. It's been over a decade since it was established and it's still as disorganized as ever. This hollow point stuff is just adding fuel to the fire as it were.

I think the notion of the kind of firepower hollow point offers is absolutely unconscionable.
