I think I've identified the problem:

We're limiting all the kinds of speech that shouldn't be limited, while we let corporate media get away with defamation against reality.

You think it's possible to get the Supreme Court to rule that reality is considered a person, too?

I think that there are underlying problems here that need to be seriously addressed. People are too quick to take anything they can get and hold to dearly what they already have, without any regard to the true value of things or indeed whether those things might even be harmful to them. This goes for unhealthy food, destructive worldviews, revenue streams and opinions. I think these institutions we hate like the propaganda machine and stifling copyright laws are a product of these greedy and fearfully loss averse attitudes that we have, and it's pointless to attack them. Until we address the cultural issue of how people think, we're just fighting the tide and new problems will spring up, whereas if we change the way we think these structures will wither away on their own.

Basically, humans just have to get better and then we'll be fine.

Yeah. I'm not that knowledgeable on politics or copyrights, but patenting math is retarded.

Today's pet peeve: C++. I'd say it's the most obtuse and painful language I've ever had the misfortune of using, but that title goes to Lisp/Scheme. Not because I can't wrap my mind around functional programming, but because Scheme is like being trapped in parentheses hell.

The other day a friend linked me to a patent filing for linked lists. Iirc it was made within the last year. So yeah, if you're using any dynamic data structures in your programming, you're infringing on some jackass's patent and could be sued. Probably not enforceable but still retarded and just shows what you can get away with.
