Re: Best star trek series.
Conversely, they also made some of the worst ones. Star Trek V could possibly be the worst movie ever, though it has some contenders in its ranks. Even the last two Next Gen Treks were'nt as bad as that one and far from the worst movies ever.
I love the original series, I think Next Generation just expanded the universe incredibly well with a cast to match the original in how likeable the characters were. It wasn't as gung-ho as the original series, but they took their own risks expanding the universe.
DS9 I watched from near the beginning and it was a different beast, but the cast was solid there, too, partically because they built on and re-used some of the Next Gen cast and characters from TNG episodes.
Voyager was OK, but suffered good character development, sometimes veering too hard in favor of The Doctor, Janeway or Seven of Nine. The rest of the cast felt like afterthoughts at times. The Borg encounters - which DS9 lacked entirely (and were rather signifigant in shaping Sisko's history) - added a bit of interest, but more original, recurring enemies would have been welcome.
Enterprise had a good cast and character development... it was just pushing it. It was best to just let the Original Series be the first crew and leave it at that, I would have rather they picked up in the TNG time period or deeper into the future of the universe than dabble too much with the past.
Plus the Away teams wearing baseball caps was fucking stupid. T'Pol was a hottie, though.
