And what is all this "didn't stand for the pledge" business. He didn't put his hand over his heart during a song, which wasn't the pledge, which is supposed to be the only time (outside of a ballgame) when people normally do that. It was everyone else who was doing it wrong.

That in itself has set a lot of people away from him.

I don't think he's got a chance to be honest. I think John McCain stands a far better chance because he will begin to finish what has been happening in Iraq.

Ok... so in order to be a good politician, you're saying that:
        1) A politician should be a die-hard Nationalist who would execute any person who desecrated a piece of cloth. Democrats are in favor of flag burning, remember.

        2) Oh noes... He's not a Christian! Burn the Witch!

Even though neither of those things are true, you're at the very least paying homage to the "Christian Right" Believe without Question, Smite the Non-believers mentality.

You're thinking of Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota - Barack is in fact Christian (specifically Unitarian Universalist). And the notion that a U.S. Senator does not acknowledge the flag of his country is ludicrous.

Please, check your facts next time and stop spouting false information from the RWCM.

What one finds, in general, is that 90% of the people in a given political party are sheep whether Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, or Miscellaneous. I have found that a great majority of Libertarians are in the party for one reason... Since the Libertarian party advocates a great deal personal liberty and a more diverse legal climate (i.e. De-centralization), the Potheads flock to the party because the Libertarians are going to "Legalize It!" Not that there's anything wrong with that, but let's look at this little analogy.

Legalization of Marijuana is to the Libertarian Party as

Repeal of Roe v. Wade is to the Republican Party as

Federalized approval of Gay Marriage is to the Democratic Party...

            etc.

They're one issue voters--all of them. They will never vote any other way until they can either (a) get what they want somewhere more popular, or (b) their issue is resolved in their favor. As one issue voters, they really don't need to know anything about their chosen party except that they vote favorably on their one issue.

Oh, don't get me wrong, most people in politics are just picking sides and following the leader. But not religiously.
