So his brother and sister will likely get DVDs and CDs, the sister's girlfriend will get a season or two of DS9, his mom will get some sort of console RPG and/or vampire-related fiction, and his dad will get an Amazon gift certificate, because nobody knows where to find the oddball, Ren-faire obscurities he asks for.

And December 28th is my nine-year anniversary with said boyfriend, so I'ma try to do something to surprise him.
Your boyfriend's sister is gay too? Are they twins or something?

          What?

The only reason I'm interested is because I'm a psych major and I think all this stuff is interesting. Also all girls are a little lesbian. It's been proven with science and alchohol.

With 50 actual gifts I have buy and wrap plus all the cookies and baked goods I give away, I have WAY too many things to buy. I am happy to say that I have 6 gifts left to buy for friends and distant family and then I can concentrate on my immediate family. WHOO HOO.......is it over yet??

for my three closest friends i am getting a sims 2 expansion, for she is a sims fanatic, a CD (forget who but they love them) and something relating to ping pong as the guy is obsessed with it. For my dad my family is pitching in money to get him an iphone, i've given like $100 for that. I am not sure what to get my brothers, sister, and mom yet. i'm not a fan of my family so it makes it hard to decide.

Is it just me getting on in years or has christmas changed from what it used to be. I used to wake up really early on xmas day and open the small gidts in my santa sack (usualy an orange, apple, some chocolate coins, a toothbrush, toothpaste, some soap, a few small toy cars and some cheap art gear. The main present was always opened after breakfast. my parents didn't spend £100'S on me at all, in fact at school my brother and I used to get picked on because our parents didn;t spend thousands of pounds on us like alot of parents did, whether they could afford it or not!

Now after spending £500 (half my months wage) on presents for people I tend to wonder is it worth it now? Am I just getting too old and barhumbugaged? Not being religeous the "real" meaning of christmas is wasted on me, though in all truth if you ask many people on the street these days Christmas to them is all about the presents and not the birth of christ anymore.

The whole presents thing has always been about kids for me & my family to begin with. My siblings and I don't really get each other anything anymore. Mostly, we'll exchange little things, like candles from my oldest sister, or home-made cookies, etc., where everybody gets the same thing. The actual present-buying, unwrapping, etc. stuff is saved for the nieces and nephews.

The rest of the holiday is really just an excuse for us all to get together and share each other's company and food. Even the kids start getting this pretty early; it's only the youngest ones who really focus on the presents, the rest just open them and check them out, say thank you, and then go back to playing games with each other. Pretty much how it's always been, really. My family (except me) are all devout Catholics, but they've never pushed the whole "real meaning" angle very hard at all.

I'd have to agree-- most people see xmas more as a Family Gathering than as a religious thing nowadays. It is kinda interesting the point you bring up though Jarre-- how many of us are turning into Scrooges because we're not the kids getting showered with gifts anymore? :p
