I am going to put up my tree tomorrow! For the first time in years. Though to be honest, my roommate is going to put it up, because apparently I do everything wrong, and he's "not trying to look at that mess for a month." So, woo!

I could probably use more lights. It is a six foot tree, but there are only 1000 on there. It is not blinding enough.

While I feel bad for everything you've gone through, I am glad you are doing relatively well TGM.

I've been working at the Land's End department at Sears for a little bit now and loving it. I like my coworkers and interacting with the customers and all that. It's a surprising amount of fun. I am now accepted as "one of them" apparently We needed a T-stand, and there were none in the back, so I half jokingly asked, "So where do we get another one? Go to another department, empty and take their T-stand?" and they turned to me with big eyes and were all, "He's one of us!!!"

It's mildly strange. I'm the only guy working with 10 women, and I'm just doing my regular thing, pitching in, holding doors, grabbing the heavy stuff, and it would seem the fellow I replaced didn't do any of that. I mean, on the one hand I want to help out and be a good worker, on the other hand, it's just what a guy DOES. To not do this is completely incomprehensible to me.

Monday was kinda interesting. I was sick, and we got this rather nasty snowstorm whilst I was working. I happened to carpool that day. It was looking like we were going to have to get a hotel room, so I dashed to the DoubleTree that was nearby, got us a room, then I dashed back to the mall to pickup some necessities. It turned out to be good we did, what normally is a 5 minute drive from my Dad's work to the mall took him 2+ hours due to traffic. So now I'm sadly housebound due to illness, doing all of that running in about 6+ inches of snow/cold/snowing weather made me rather ill. Which really irks me because I was scheduled to work today, and I did not want to miss a day of work.

This upcoming Friday ought to be interesting.... I've never been out and about on Black Friday before and I'm scheduled to work 4:30am-12:45.

But still, it's great to be employed and I'm really loving my job.

Well, this is a surprise. After such a warm mid-day yesterday - apparently overnight - snow decided to pay Pennsylvania a visit.

Really. Fucking. Cold. Right now. *squirms*

Nope. Was at work. And I don't work in retail so I have no earthly idea what was so important that we had to be in today. I could use the money, but sheesh. I've never left the house on Black Friday before in my life. Why should I have to start now?

So, my evening was...surreal. I got up late (I was up late last night, and drank...a lot, but whatever). I went for coffee, hung out with my roommate a bit, and then we headed over to the Pendleton for that last Friday of the month art show I talked about in the pictures thread some time ago. The good thing that came of that is that my roommate, who is rather creative, thinks he can reproduce the work of this painter I really admired, who does these sort of dreamy landscapes. I love them. Also, we saw my friend Matt, who is a photographer with a studio there.

Anyway, my roommate headed out, and I set to cleaning my room. But Matt called, and invited me to Fountain Square to have drinks with him. I met him at a local brewpub, where we shared this gigantic platter of nachos (seriously, it was ginormous), and had some really awesome microbrews. On the way back home, we passed this local bar and my boss was outside. He was seriously drunk, but super excited to run into me, and insisted we come inside. So we did. We were plied with (free) drinks by him, and we ran into two members of the defunct boy band 98 Degrees, Nick Lachey, and the ugly one. We also ran into Jean Robert De Cavel, who is an amazing chef, and who owns several restaurants in town I met him years ago at a dinner party my friend Amy was throwing, but he didn't remember me (understandably). My boss told him he was an ok cook. I also ran into this couple who live on my floor. They were, like, super excited to see me, which was weird, because we see each other several times a day. It's not exactly an event.

ANYWHO, then I headed home after walking Matt to his car, and then two guys were waiting outside my building for someone who lived in my building. And then they like, had to pee or whatever, so they did. Like, in full view of the world. I was like "Um..." and they were all "Don't tell anyone!" and I was like "Sure?" But I'm totally telling you guys. Sorry random dudes outside my building! Does stuff like this happen to everyone, or am I just um, lucky? I don't know that lucky is the word I want, but whatever.

So then I came home to find a note from my roommate saying he was really drunk/sick, and that he was sorry, but the trashcan was in his room. What a mess. Also, my newscaster upstairs neighbor was in the elevator, and he invited me up to his apartment for drinks. I did not take him up on it, because what the hell could this night get any weirder?

Decided to go to Wal-Mart this morning because, well, I needed some things (the main thing being laundry detergent, as I have a heap of dirty clothes and nothing with which to wash them), and because it was only 9 AM on a Saturday, I figured I would beat the bulk of people going out and shopping. Not only that, it's not the first of the month. (Aksannyi's shopping rule #2: Never go to Wal-Mart on the first of the month. If you need this explained, you don't live in or near the ghetto.) And I figure most people have spent a bunch of money yesterday and were not fixing to spend any today. That works for me.

Going to Wal-Mart in the afternoons and evenings is troublesome. Late night can (and does) work, but I can't stand trying to navigate through the restocking people.

Oh well, the main point is that I got through it, got what I needed, and it was actually painless for a change, as Wal-Mart excursions rarely are. So 9 AM on Saturdays is my new favorite time to go to Wal-Mart, unless of course it is the first of the month. In which case, whatever I need can either wait a week or be picked up somewhere else.

Then I came home and checked my electric bill online, and it's a beautiful $45 and some change. This is why I don't turn the AC on. First of all, I get cold. Second of all, it costs a damn fortune. I could probably go through the entire winter without flicking it on once and save myself a buttload of money. I was just really happy to open up that bill and see what I'd be paying this month and find how low it was. Of all the months I need my electric bill to be low, this is the one.

Well, I survived black friday, really wasn't too bad, more like a busy saturday.

I worked the 4:30-12:45 shift though, so it might have been it got busier later in the day, and I know it did actually. But as an employee I didn't have to wait outside the store waiting for it to open for hours in the cold, rain, ice, and snow, so hey, I was a happy camper

Thanks to the job I'm also dropping more weight. This also means women are back to hitting on me quite a bit, but at least now I can handle it and I'm ok with turning them down, always have been in fact. It's their reaction to me turning them down that I don't like. I still don't like dealing with it however. I'm just one of those guys who primarily isn't interested in sleeping around, and most women and guys I've meet seem to have issues accepting that.

I finally got my login to the network at work today. But this was at ten minutes to five ... which is annoying to say the least ... and I still don't have access to the database we work with. Just the network. Which gives me e-mails, but not much else.

Baby steps. I mean hey, it's been nearly four weeks. Creating user accounts is hard stuff. Those guys deserve their 25 bucks an hour or whatever ungodly amount they get paid. -.-
