It really depends on what future you want them to make for themselves. If it's only money then it's pretty simple to accomplish, the question is if you'd be really satisfied watching your kids grow up that way.

I did, but even all that would not change anything if you ended up breaking. Nor would your kids forget about the wrong things you did "for their sake". Unless you were willing to lie to them and kept them completely in the dark about it.



But it always ends up becoming a mess when I start talking about stuff like this. So maybe I should stop here. <_<

Personally, I wouldn't know what to do. Taking the money, or not, I'd regret whatever I did for the rest of my life.

Well Ray, unless you've been there I really don't think you can make an informed opinion. I've been there. I won't get into details but I had it very rough in my late teens when I had my daughter. I worked 3 jobs but yet couldn't afford a place to live so I lived in my car. I paid for people to take care of my daughter and I also had to pay for all the essentials like food, clothes, diapers, medical care, etc. I was going into bars and picking change up off the floor and some of the regulars would drop some on the floor when they saw me coming. So basically thats begging......and its a humbling experience. I dug in the garbage for aluminum, copper, etc. After my hours were cut at one of my jobs, my daughter got sick and needed antibiotics. Going by the "I'll never steal to provide for my kids" moral, I would have condemned my daughter to hearing damage or worse. So I stole from people, I went into their lockers at work and I stole money. I was even offered $100 for sex from a guy that had been trying to get into my pants for a long time. Trust me, I considered it but decided to take the money out of the lockers instead. Neither were good options or moral ones but in the end my daughter got her medicine and thats ALL that matters.

I really wouldn't. I've been in positions with lots of responsability and I have not taken a single cent even though there were a hundred ways to get away with it.

Some people just don't think that way. Although I understand why someone living in a society like the one in the US (or here in MX) would find it close to impossible to even think about the posibility of someone simply ignoring the million dollars lying there.

Do you have kids? If not, things change drastically. I can easily say I wont ever kill anyone, but if my kids are ever harmed, I can't even think about what I would do to that person. And I can't even fathom being a person that is less fortunate than myself. I applaud your morals and your will power to do the right thing, but as I said, when that opportunity is presented in front of you, do you honestly think you'll hold fast to temptation? You honestly can't say you will until you are in that situation.

I would lie to protect anyone close to me. Especially my kids. You think your parents haven't lied to you even about a small thing? Get with it dude.. this isn't a perfect world.

Nah man you are entitled to your opinion. Everyone else will just have something else to say about it. We all come from different backgrounds and life hasn't exactly favored all of us.

If it was their life or freedom on the line it wouldn't matter. If someone was about to shoot your child and you had a shot at the guy would you "not break" and show your kid how it's never right to harm someone right before they died? If the Juarez cartel is at your door looking for your son who refused to traffic drugs for them, will your honesty "not break" as you tell them he's hiding in the closet? Would you sacrifice them for your righteous pride?

After further thinking on the subject, I remembered that I saw a question similar to that on one of those electronic job applications awhile back. It was either Target or Circuit City's app (This was about 6 years ago lol), it said something like "If you could steal something and not be caught or face consequences, would you do it?" That is kind of a hard question to answer, the question is so doggone general that it doesn't have any factors to determine your decision on. Then you start to factor in how will they look at your answer, you wonder "If I say no, will they think i'm just saying that, or will they believe I'm being honest." or "If I say yes, will I be being honest or will they think that I would steal something if I had the chance to do so." Then too there may not even be a "They" looking over the applications, it may just be going through the computer to screen them out.

LOL yeah that is so true. A few questions before they asked that question they'd ask "Have you ever stolen anything before?" and a few questions after that one "Do you know anybody who has ever stolen anything before?" and then "Have you ever accidently taken home small petty items from your previous jobs (Pens, pencils, paperclips, etc.)"

IDK how many times I've left work with rubberbands on my arms and a pen in my pocket. I remember when I went to that job, I brought some of my own stuff so that I'd have some Utensils to use until they got me a desk and some equipment. Somewhere along the line, I looked around and somebody had taken almost all of my good pencils I bought. They apparently though that I had got those through work, so I got pissed and hid them in my desk lol.
