    Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

    MTG, no doubt.

Once I'm don't organizing all my cards (I'm currently done with Blue, Black, White, and "Miscellaneous," which would be Artifacts, Non-basic lands, Golds and Double cards, and I'm working on Greens at the moment, so I only have Red and the rest of these greens), I'll have a better ballpark figure. But, by current estimations, my entire set (that I have completed, as said above), is worth about $6000. This doesn't include a hundreds of singles that I have sold and haven't removed from the online database. All said and done, maybe $10,000? I think that should help me get over my MTG addiction quite nicely.

Good lord, how can you have that much value? I'm sure I've got nowhere near that... but how would I go about getting them appraised? (Assuming I can)

Me want money.... I could have had my PS3 by now with all the cash I've given WotC > _ <

Or I could put it towards my new PC...

      Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

Many, many years ago, someone wrote a nice little pricing script, called Cloister's Price Guide. He ran it privately for some time until he finally gave up, and release the script to the public. Many sites have since adapted the script for their own use.

One of these sites is essentialmagic.com, something I mentioned earlier. They're the ones I use to keep track of my collection. They have a very nice feature which integrates Cloister's script and figures your total collection value.

These values are based off eBay singles that are sold. So, the prices are reasonably accurate as an after-market value over a large number of card. Some of the prices, however, show up as "$0.00", simply because none have sold in the eBay history that's available to the script when it's run. I can't remember if it looks for condition when determining the price, but I want to say it doesn't. So, generally speaking, the collected prices will be a bit on the low side.

If you want to get a rough value, I'd suggest signing up for the site I mentioned above. Just keep in mind the value will change depending on your local market. If you have a large collection (which, even though it's 35,000 cards, I don't consider mine large by any means), you could probably work with a local card shop to see what they think it's worth.

Because if you don't, I'll cry?
      I can live with that.

            Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

You mean work with my local shop to work out what it's worth online? 'Cause even if I had anything they want, I would only get store credit and I'm not interested in that (actually, I'd more than likely get screwed over anyway since they're the ones who want to make a profit)

even $50~100 would make me happy (which is reasonable given my collection) but I can probably hold out for more given the worth of some of my rares (wishing I still had my Akroma, Angel of Wrath now damn it > <)

              Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

Well, if your only interest is selling online (such as through a bulk lot on eBay, which is how I acquired about 3/4 of my collection), then I wouldn't take it to an online store. Most bulk lots (on eBay, and when I purchased mine anyway, which was about 3-4 years ago), you could generally get around 3 cents a card, unless you had a much higher concentration of rares (remember, due to card distribution in booster packs, rares are generally about 1 in 15), or had a number of very high-profile cards.

Although I swore to myself 3 years ago I wouldn't buy another lot of cards... how many are you planning on getting rid of, exactly? 2,000? 500? 50,000?

I haven't counted them all yet. I need to sort them by rarity/foil then by color.

                  Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

I foured out every playable T2 card just before I started playing FFXI, and haven't played since! When I moved to Japan, I sold 200 rares for $150! Rares included Sliver QueenS, Medallions, almost all Saga rares, and Every rare I had from Ice Age to Destiny. I have regretted it ever since.

@ Malacite: Post a small list of some of the better cards and what you would sell the whole lot for when you get a chance. Thanks!

                      Sliver Queen. How much?

I've been wanting to build a new sliver deck, though I don't have that many slivers in my collection atm.

I would throw in an offer for the Platinum Angel, as well, but I'm more of a Pegasus person myself -- combo time: Planar Birth + Pegasus Stampede.

                        Re: Anyone Play/Lost MTG?

Well, a few of those rares are being used in my current R/U Jhoira Deck (They're sleeved and in fine condition) but I figure I'll eventually end up selling all my cards anyway.

MTG is fun, but in retrospect I should have probably just signed up for MTGO. I only ever play with 1 or 2 of my RL friends and it's not like we're getting any younger if you know what I mean. Time to cut my losses and maybe turn a profit if at all possible (not likely, but it's better than $0)

Legacy weapon is being reprinted in 10th though, along with Plat. Angel (which is why it's in my Jhoira Deck) along with Joiner Adept (1/1 Elf for 1G that makes all your lands tap for any color). Much as I love Slivers, I freaking love Legacy more.
