Well, the U.S. government is financing its one trillion dollar war on Iraq mostly with borrowing.* All you have to to is get Congressional approval and the White House's blessing, and your War on (Terrorist) Criminals dream can become reality with vapor money you/we don't have.

The one trillion dollar figure is for the long term budgetary outlay--basically, the checks the government writes. That estimate includes $89-386 billion dollar merely for interests on the borrowing, depending on when we can get the troops home.

The economists estimates another one trillion dollar damage on the economy, through various vodoo calculations which I won't pretend I have any understanding of. Read the article linked earlier for details.

How odd that you would post that now.

Long, personal explanation of what lead up to watching that movie....

This last weekend, my family was cleaning out my great-grandmother's house. She died 11 years ago, but they just sold the house, so it was time to salvage or trash the items inside.

I mainly went through the toys and games (mostly my cousin's stuff: he was raised mostly by our GGM), to get things worth ebaying or passing on. My daughter, the My Little Pony freak, walked away with 3 vintage ponies c.1982. My middle son, on the other hand, got a Batman costume from the Michael Keeton era.

Now, he's a huge Spiderman fan; it's all he talks about, plays with, etc. But he got all pumped about this Batman suit. My daughter eventually got all frothed over it too. After they each wore it around and punched the air and whatnot, I realized that they had no idea who Batman was. So we rented "Batman Begins" and all watched it for the first time.

That was easily the best Batman movie, making the Tim Burton films look silly by comparison. The direction of the first 2 Spiderman films (that completely went out the window in SM3) of grounding the plot at least a little bit in the real world, was done full force in this Batman movie. There was an explanation for every little bit of gear, and even the Ras AlGul supernatural elements were reduced to mythos.

I never really liked Batman much at all before that movie. He's alright in my book now.

I have all the batman movies up to the most recent one I think. The classic Adam West one, and those four or five that were made in.. early 90s I think?

Too bad you don't live about 400 miles closer, you could borrow 'em :p
