i know theres a thread of couples but i just wanted to know if anyone else sees couples and feels all lonely ; ; everytime i see a couple i get all sad wanting to have someone (; - , anyone else feel that way?

I am often terribly lonely while playing. It's difficult for me to find people in-game that I really relate to and can have fun interacting with. And when I do, it's inevitible that sometimes these folks aren't going to be around. It would be nice to have someone to play with that I knew would always be there when I was.

Ditto, but even if you have friends that always play at the same time you do they might want to do something entirely different to what you have in mind or feel like doing (or might be only interested in doing things THEY need and never aviable to do things you need to do ).

So in my experience I'm better off on my own most of the times, and if I need help I can always call my NPC (if callable), she doesn't speak much but has the looks to keep me entertained while I kill stuff

It's dissapointing really, the fact that even though this game is so heavily based on depending on others to advance most of the time you end up in a party of complete strangers, simply because it's rare to get to know reliable people who has the same goals you do or that is willing to work as a team.

(For me Static parties, CoP statics and anything that has to do with a static has failed miserably. But maybe it's just me. )


Edit> Thankfully this game has a lot of fun things to do to keep me entertained and even if I do everything with a bunch of strangers I always have fun. (If I didnt I would've quit a long time ago )

Sorry if I sound like a dick, but if you feel this way, I would advocate quitting the game. I've seen so many "lonely" people play this game to try and find somebody. It will be a letdown 90% of the time, because either 1) They aren't who they say they are. 2) They're a dude.

I don't know if you're really 100% serious, but playing this game to find somebody is like looking for buried treasure under concrete. It'll be very unprobable, and you might find something, BUT, even when you do, it'll be very hard to get to, or cost you a lot of money in the means to get to it. :/

Once upon a time, many years ago (ok, two) I knew some really nice folks from a forum I frequented who all played FFXI. One day my friend Megan decided that it would be super fun if all of us formed a static party together. Unfortunately, many of us were spread across several servers, so said party would require that we start from scratch in order to play together. However, none of us minded this (too much) and so we did. And it was good.

Our static party was seriously good times. We kicked ass, took names, all that jazz. But then, hard times hit our little circle of friends. We all had varying degrees of responsibility outside of Vana'diel, and this began to wreak havoc on our leveling schedule. Eventually, some pulled ahead of the others, and the static party was broken. Many bad times were had, and many feelings were hurt. But for some, the friendship was able to stay alive. So there was companionship, and goodness, and many exps.

At least, until WoW came out, at which point people started dropping accounts like rocks.

Anyway, I've never found that kind of companionship (the pre-breaking of the static, or even the post-breaking, really), but I have held out hope that one day I'll make some really super awesome in-game friends that I totally click with. Until then I'll have to make do.

As an aside to the people that I do know in game and who frequent this site: I'm not saying that you AREN'T super awesome, but rather that I am just getting to know you, and thus am not confident enough just yet to dub you so.


EDIT: I am however, not looking for the in-game romances. Unlike (apparently?) our OP. I am just looking for the friendship.

You don't have to quit the game unless you aren't having fun anymore, but Rodin speaks the truth, finding a companion in an online game is very very improbable (not impossible but close to it).

You might find girls to be friends with, but from that to having a relationship there's a huge difference. And even if you meet the girl in RL most of the stories I've heard would be more suited for a horror book than anything else.

I know it's easy to expect meeting someone online, it would make sense since you are both sharing a common interest (FF) but that isn't enough to build a relationship (leave alone a solid one), a major part of it has nothing to do with sharing common interests but with many other aspects. I guess it can happen but don't have much expectations or you'll end up dissapointed by the reality of things.


Although... that doesn't mean we have to stop looking for that special girl that would share our interests and who would be your friend, lover and everything you want, but reality isn't all perfect and an online game isn't the best place to find such a person.

That kind of friendships only happen when we are all newbies, after people spends a certain time playing friendships take a backseat to all the other stuff in game, also people spend much less time playing as time goes by, and all those fun all nighters become a thing of the past (simply because keeping that same rythm for so long is pretty much impossible).

In my case I only have 4 or 5 good friends I've known since I started playing, but we don't do stuff together anymore for those reasons, sometimes we do, but it's not as often as it used to (read rarely).


I guess that might be part of the end game/long time playing blues eh?

In all seriousness, if your problem is loneliness, a MMORPG is probably the LAST thing you need, because it almost seems to fill the void. In the meantime, it's eating up all of your chances to socialize in real life.

But in all seriousness 99.9% of the time you will make friends in online games. I have never heard of stable and REAL relationships sprouting from online games. In fact, I've only heard one case where a guy and girl were dating IRL, but the guy met another girl while his GF was on vacation and they started going out. And they all play FFXI and I'm friends with them, so that only brought me into the fray.

I think an online game can sprout a real and functional relationship, but I'm doubting that it ever lasts too long, unless both of them are incredibly lucky.

And by real I mean that they don't just talk get married in game, but they also meet each other IRL and get married IRL.
