Microsoft to buy out Skype

Just saw this on CNN 2 minutes ago, MS is going to announce later today that they're buying Skype.


Shit just got real. Sadly, I can't help but wonder if this means Skype will no longer be free, but I can see some amazing potential coming with linking Skype & XBL.

I think it will stay free and the system will remain largely as is, just with some changes.

Skype needed something to give it more legitimacy and MS backing them and buying them up is one way to get that, because ISPs and phone companies fucking hate Skype undermining their service packages. Netflix found a model to leave them sitting pretty and safe from those giants but Skype has a harder time making that money, though its undeniably set a standard and made things like teleconferencing easy and free.

I do have to wonder if this means PSP gets to keep it or Sony has to pay out to MS for that, but then, who ever used Skype on the PSP. I never really got the opportunity myself. But I'm sure everyone will get to keep it as it is right now.

Just wanted to note real quick that anybody still getting on Microsoft's case in this day and age is clearly stuck in the late 90's.

If anything, it's Apple that's getting out of control. Nobody tell that to the fanboys cultists, though.
