That will probably be why the only "early adoption" I'll be doing will be in regards to the consoles themselves. I don't plan on buying any BD or HDDVD discs for awhile. Even though Sony is the clear favorite in the long run, I'm still prepared to wager a few thousand dollars in players and discs on it just yet.
And again, I'm telling you they acted like children during the negotiations. One side would decide to make a public statement how they were going to proceed with development and production of their format, presumably in hopes of establishing an upperhand in negotiations. Only to have the other side get pissed off and say basically the same thing about their own format. If only they could see my living room, then they could see that Sony and Toshiba can get along just fine.

They can look inSIDE the PS3 >.> The Cell processor is a joint-venture between Sony, toshiba and IBM, AKA, STI <.<

Wierd, Toshiba partnered with Sony to make the next processor coup d'etat of the new millenium, yet they plan on waging a format war within our own living rooms.

Further more, wouldn't toshiba get a bigger profit by simply supporting their investment in the PS3, by making sure that the PS3 will even be adopted by those seeking a cheap Next-Gen Movie player?

A lot of this doesn't add up. . .

I really believe its just everyone trying to make as much money as they can w/o having to pay royalties to any other company, but I suppose a little conspiracy theory could be possible.

Anyway, the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) was this last week and the same site has a lot of pics from both BD and HD-DVD. I guess since PS3 should be coming out in a few months, and I was planning on getting one then anyway, I suppose I'll start getting caught up in the next gen format wars myself. I should have figured, but failed to reaize, that all the new players have an upconvert system built in, so I can still watch my old DVD's in upconverted format (if you don't have one of these and aren't planning on early adopting a BD or HD-DVD player I highly suggest picking one up, they do wonders).

I think that's one of the fears my readers have. They look at Blu-ray versus HD-DVD, and wonder if they buy these things, are they going to be gone in two years? Personally, having watched these developments from the beginning, I don't think that's going to be the case. At least not on the Blu-ray side. Format support is just too strong. Frankly, I'm not even sure there's really a format war anymore...

You know... I think it always comes down to content. When you're looking at it from the consumer point-of-view, buying the player is a one time event. But the content is an on-going cycle, where you're always looking for new releases... new content, whether its movies, or music, or games. It's about the content. That's what it really boils down to, more than the hardware side. Believe me, coming from a hardware company point-of-view, we understand that very clearly. And when you consider that we have seven out of eight major Hollywood studios now supporting Blu-ray Disc... and the other format has three... it's really hard to imagine how a consumer could look at that and say, "You know, I think I want to go with the format with less support."

There really was a coup de etat going on over here, because it seems that HD DVD is fighting an uphill battle.

Yeah, HD-DVD = screw'ed. They've got too many people going against them at this point. It will take a miracle to get them on top. My guess is that blu ray will sort of integrate them into what they have and take what they want for minimal charge. They should have negotiated for money when they had the chance.

Yeah, funny the XBox 360 is trying to help them out. Even M$ I think pales in comparison to what the porn industry does and latest news releases I had found stated that the Porn Industry is backing Blu-Ray >.>

You can say almost everything profits off porn..even the ones againist them...

BTW there is a direct correlation between the stock market and porn...explain it how you will, but...it's almost scary how well those two go together on a chart.

HD-DVD and blue ray isn't quite clear cut... the problem comes down to suppliers.

HD-DVD like its name is much more similar to DVD, such that you "upgrade" your production line to HD.

Blue-ray though...no dice... in with new, out with old.

So BR is much more expensive to produce, which should have played out that HD would of won...but...

Sony is just that powerful...Sony entertainment studio's a good push, and PS3 is just as bad ass trump card... The best way to drive cost down and drive up greed is, mass production.

If there will be 1-3 million PS3 sold in by 1st q 07... no way in heck HD DVD will beat that.

Xbox360 HD-DVD is crap...it's a pretty feeble attempt, that should of been thought better. It's an external movie drive...that's all it is. Besides that, there is no realistic way to get a external Optional HD-DVD player under $100. There is pretty much also no real way to get it to play HD-DVD games...unless they stick it in the HDD slot...no one wants 400bps (if even) transfer rate max even if every single 360 owner brought a HD-DVD. (Though for arguement sake.. my old ps2 on a scratchy DVD ran decently on 360ish bps)

Where on the PS3 side...can.

PS: wasn't there an arcticle that HD-DVD has since been delay (yet again?) to May?
