Disney = The Evil Empire of Animation

If you haven't heard, you must be living under a rock.

Disney just shut down its Florida studio and cancelled the remainder of its 2D productions. From now on, all Disney animated features will be CGI films created in their California studio, leaving over 250 talented 2D artists out of jobs.

I find this to be a ridiculous excuse for money. Disney is supposed to represent the heart of the animation industry, and yet it's simply following in the footsteps of Dreamworks, and most of all Pixar, a studio which already gets the Nazi Mouse enough money.

This may just be me, but I think this spells the end of Disney. Within the next decade or two, I think something big might happen to them. They've already lost so much money off flops like Treasure Planet and Atlantis; they've made more "Cheapquels" than they ever had; and now they're moving to all-CGI production, simply because Pixar has become one of the world's top studios that way.

If Disney goes all-CGI, what use would they have for Pixar? My guess is the deal between the two companies will end. Pixar will branch off on its own like they had planned before the recent deal, and there will be competition between 3 all-CGI studios: Dreamworks, Pixar, and Disney.

(Of course,we all know who's gonna win that. Disney's latest films have all been horribly written with the exception of Lilo and Stitch, Dreamworks' films are all Pixar ripoffs with the exception of Shrek, and Pixar...well, Pixar is among the most talented studios in the world.)

I know, a lot of this is speculation, a lot of it is opinion. But it is a fact that Disney has completed its transition to all-CGI production. It is a fact that it has left 258 talented individuals without jobs, and it is a fact that Disney is not the company we all wish it was. What do you guys think about this?

Disney has pissed me off for a long time.

Doing whatever they wanted to keep the cash flowing...

Raping original and classic stories to sell to a younger audience. Hans Christian Andersen is prolly rolling over in his grave, along with tons of other ORIGINAL writers.

Also, compare the art styles in Disney cartoons pre-1990, and they all looked fairly the same... Black Caulderon, 101 Dalmations, Robin Hood, Jungle Book, etc. You could tell they were pretty much all under the same art direction, using the same cleanup sheets for characters and movement patterns.

Then in the late 80's early 90's they noticed the slight rise in interest that the US adolescent started having in anime, and all the sudden, the art style took a sudden sharp turn. (Remember the 'Gargoyles' TV series?)

Character's eyes started getting bigger, mouths smaller. Un-natural hair colors became more common. blah blah blah

CGing everything is obviously just the next "turn" that Disney is taking to keep the bills rolling in.

I feel sorry for the 2D artists that got tossed to the side like garbage. Maybe they'll go out and start up their own studio like Don Bluth did.
