Talk about a difference =/

So I just gotten the FFXI drivers for nvidia to work on my laptop, so now it out performs my desktop where the Laptop doesn't lag like hell in crowds, but now after looking at the same spot it makes me sad that my desktop is of lesser quality =/

Main focus, any way I can improve my settings to get the quality up to par?

I can notice the difference... I'm a little surprised the laptop is the better of the 2 though.

I have to agree, looks the same to me besides the obvious light difference. o_o Not to mention, laptop just looks like you did a 0.2 Blur from Photoshop while desktop looks 'noiser'.

Then again, I play on PS2 sooo... that explains so much.

Maybe you should start by saying just what it is about the laptop image you like better.

I don't see any major difference other than brightness, either, and that's going to be difficult to say too much about, because you're talking about two different monitors. If your laptop's screen is brighter than your desktop monitor, it makes sense for that image to be darker when you look at them side by side on the same monitor.

the lap top is producing a deeper color it seems

the thing is, yeah the lap top might be preforming better, but how old is the laptop and the desk top? THe hardware in the laptop might be better.

Anyway, on your desktop make sure you have the appropriate drivers (depending on if your desktop is nvidia or ATI

and the rest is going to involve messing with the registry and your graphic card settings

it's funny when you think about the difference on computers. my ffxi runs great on my 3.4GHz dual-core machine with 2GB ram, and also runs awesome on my laptop with a 1.6GHz Pentium M with 1GB ram. there are small differences, but both run pretty damn equal. from what i understand, ffxi is more cpu-intensive than video memory (512Mb on my desktop vs 64mb on my laptop), so who knows exactly what the real 'minimum' specs are...

how old is the laptop and the desk top?

Desktop overall 8 years, not including times I get new parts to upgrade it. Laptop got it in October '07

Anyway, on your desktop make sure you have the appropriate drivers

Its a nVidia 4 series, got the ffxi drivers for it installed. Which would be 93.71.

Looks like you have the lighting on in the windower on the desktop image

Haven't used windower since the official one came out. All ffxi-config settings are the same as well as ingame settings.

They run equal because they're both far above the minimum requirements.

Why do you feel the laptop image is better quality? What is the difference between the two that you would like to carry over to the desktop image?

Laptop's rendering is not as bright and doesn't give at least to me, the impression of miscoloring nor out of place lighting. Good example is the difference between the lamps and water there. Also, laptop handles weather effects much cleaner, and makes distances more realistic as you would see them on the horizon.

If you use the 3rd party windowing solution then that may be part of it as well. There are some default lighting settings in the init file that may be different between the two.... or so I've heard.
