Oh, by the way, is there a way to completely shut access down to internet explorer without uninstalling the program? I figure atleast for the mean time it would save my sanity if I could figure out how to disable its ability to pop up explorer windows, in short I guess I'm looking to make explorer completely unaccessibly to the coding.
Sometimes renaming iexplore.exe to something else (I used iexplore2.exe) will work. But some times, in weird ways, either Windows or the virus (I'm not sure which, but in most cases both can be interchangeable) will simply plant a new iexplore.exe program. If it happens, there's no way to do what you ask short of resolving the problem or uninstalling IE (which I would do anyway, and even then it probably won't help, as a new iexplore.exe will be planted, and you'll have lost all your settings).
SRSLY though, MS benefits when more people use IE*, and they've got it integrated pretty closely with their OS. That said, I'm sure you can find a program that will remove IE from whatever version of windows you might have- even when MS claimed that removing IE would make Windows unusable, someone managed to make a program to remove it with pretty much no consequences.
*If you're wondering how IE helps MS, IE isn't fully standards compliant (neither is any web browser, not opera, firefox, safari, etc, but they are better), which means that web designers can (and sometimes will) design their site for IE- and when they do one thing in IE to make it look good, it might totally ruin it for web browsers that are more compliant. When people have to use IE to make a site usable, they have to (in theory, at least. Of course not in practice, but still.) have Windows to use IE, which helps MS move Windows.
Shoving an anchor up my ass and pulling out my intestine to remove colon cancer could technically be done, but no one in their right mind is going to call it surgery or recommend it.
IE is used for a hell of a lot more then just a porn viewer.
What? Who said it was used strictly for porn? Porn is just an add on when you're a teenager with raging hormones who isn't in the mental frame of reference to start dating again after a previous relationship.
Well typically he uses his own computer, he was just on mine because mine was hooked up to the router while his wasn't, which he could have easily switched out X_x. He was just being lazy and decided to use mine. In August when I move out I won't need to set up a user or anything since my room will have its own key lock.
A bit late for this, perhaps, but a coworker recommends housecall.trendmicro.com
Personally, I'd say reinstall the OS, keeping as little from the original system as possible (e.g. C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI\USER and perhaps C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pub\home01).
And setting up a user login with password (or having any OS other than Windows booted, depending on how sensitive family members are to small changes in the computing environment :p ) is probably sufficient deterrent to make switching out cables more appealing to the lazy.
