Video card error and random restarts =/

Been havinf video card trouble, screen will flicker and then go black and come back and there will be a "VPU" error thing and said something about turning to software rendering or something... have to look at it again.

Also been getting random restarts, screen would just instantly go black and then start booting up again, and after it starts up I get an error (pic included).

Not sure what this is >< but I think my computer is pretty much fried =(

first off, NEWDOTNET is spyware/adware that is installed through p2p services (i know i got it with kazaa). if you already got rid of teh dll (i see adaware, so it's probably gone from your comp), go to:
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run delete the one who's value matches that of the error (has newdotnet at end of string)
after that, go to:
hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run delete the one who's value matches that of the error (has newdotnet at end of string)





as for the ati vpu failure, get catalyst 4.8, it has supossidly fixed an error in the vpu recover program. don't know if it works, but if it does, it will fix the sympom (to solve the problem, i suggest you look into any software/hardware conflicts as well as the poper maintaining of your computer's hardware, i.e. using CO2 blasters to remove dirt from fans an grill plates)

Thankies for the reply^^ was afraid I was going to have to reformat ; ;. BTW >< not all too good with computer as you can tell from all my help threads, but how do you get to "hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run"? to delete the things I need ><; big newbie.

NM I got to it and deleted it, but I couldn't find it in the "Current User" one... is that bad? >< But did get it out of the "Local Machine" one.

Not bad at all if you didn't see in Current User. The Current User is actually just a mirror image of the Local Machine configurations. So anything in the Current User data is lost when you restart the computer and just mirrored again from the Local Machine.

EDIT:

A word of caution though, if you don't know how to navigate through the registry to well I extreemly advice that you make copies of the two files that compose the registry and have them saved off somewere.

If a bad change is made and your registry crashes on you then you basically gave your OS "Brain" a lobotomy >.>

before you do anything with registry (except the one i said cuz i know it from experience, though i didn't know ecaxt name of entry), go to the menu and choose export. in there, click the radio (circle) button that says entire registry. that may end up being upwards of 50, even well over 100mb (i got about 110 last time i checked, mostly from classes and registered dlls associated with my programs).

how did vpu error go so far?

Many of you may know that I too suffered from the same problem when I built my first computer. So no, I guess I'm not bad at it after all.

Listen to my buddy Doppelganger, Catalysts 4.8 fixed it for me...unfortunately, I don't think you can turn up AGP settings without it screwing up, but I'm not exactly sure if that's true with the latest drivers. I'm too much of a pansy to try it out.

Hrmm... well it did seem ok for a bit...

But I'm still getting the random restarts ><. After it restarts now I get a message "Your computer has recovered from a serious error" but nothing about that file before ><. Anyone know what it could be? ; ; thought it was fixed after removing that junk before.

have you made sure that your computer is not overheating? and also have dx9.0c installed?


only things i know that cause that are hardware problems, memory overloads (both physical and vmem), or a corrupt OS file... mainly hardware (overheating most likely, too many people don't have proper circulation for computer's air supply)

does the restart only happen in-game, or both?..

any blue screen of death?..and what kind of file was it talking about?

if it still happens, u can try and open you case for a day (maybe put a fan pointing at the motherboard)..and see if it still restarts....and if it doesn't, its likely overheating issues...
