how to tell your computer specs?...complete newb..

Im not good at these kind of stuff but how do you tell your computer specs? Also is the processor the thing like AMD or Pentium? and if it is, if i get a better one would the "number" increase...example: Pentium X 1.4 gig ---- Pentium X 2.0 gig....X=variable(1-4) and the "number" being the gigs
