  • In Search of a Videocard

Hello everyone, some people might know me from making many Topics regarding the Information of Certain Video Cards. after hearing Many Many MAAAANY people tell me not to buy a MSI Geforce fx 5900 XT, I've came to ask about Information on a ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 128 MB.. i need to know alot of this before i purchase it. Such as: What is this Line Glitch i've Heard about? what Causes it and how can you get Rid of it?.
What sort of Gameplay can i get from this Card: Will it run FFXI Smooth? better than the Geforce 4200 Ti 128MB that i currently own?

*yawn* that should be it for now i guess,
Please Reply, the quicker the Information comes the Quicker i can laugh at people using Geforce cards lol j/k

    Regards, Akiito

Don't know what the line glitch is, but on my softmodded 9800SE im guessing its thin black lines appearing on the textures.

the 9800 Pro has much better image quality than their nvidia counterparts and tend to perform better with AA on. its the best deal on the net, you can get it for ~$200 new on newegg or buyxg.com

as for the 5900XT comment, im currently using one and have no problems with it...it runs pretty much the same as my softmodded 9800SE (9800 Pro) but with AA on it looks a bit blurry.

Thanks for that Info, i'm probably gonna end up buying the Ati Radeon 9800 Pro if i can learn more about this line glitch, i seen a few peoples pics with it happening and it looks pretty damn bad.

thanks for the Information anyway, cheers

the geforce 4200 is most likely the best $/ proformance card nvidia has ever made, though my ati 9600xt owns it by a lot... if you get a 9600 pro or higher ati card, or 5600 or higher nvidia card, that will smoke the 4200...

9600 wipes the floor with 4200 in 3dstudio max (before i could only have low rez or few high res models in a preview window at once, now i can use real time preview with a small set (people models and other high rez polys and nurbs)

if you can, get the 9800 pro, any glitches you encounter are probably caused by the newest driver out there (i use 4.1 cuz newer ones mess with my card somehow)

Okay thanks, that info is great, so what sort of settings can i expect to play with? and this is the main reason i wanna buy a new card is: i wanna reduce lag all round, AH's,Sandstorms in Valkurm Dunes etc, will the Radeon 9800 PRO stop lag?

          thanks, Akiito

depends how much detail you turn up, it can still lag with shadows, weather, high resolution.
