    redeon9600 XT (Help!)

    I just installed a ati radeon9600 XT and am having problems with it, I got all the drivers (as far as i know, I am a bit of a noob) when i start up the FF11 bench it will start up fine then crash, ive tried it 6 times, the first two times it ran then crashed,when i booted it back up the ati dispaly said it was an error with the drivers, 3rd time i got a direct3d error, last two times it ran fine....

    btw i dont know if this is important but the card is produced by transcend.

    btw tom will be my 1st time back in vanadeil in 4 months (long story) anyways all im waiting on is the CC info! I will get it tom yea!!! kinda sux i gotta start over but happy that i can play again

    did you install the ati drivers or the manufacturer drivers?

        Go to www.ati.com and download the newest catalyst drivers.

        Before you install right click my computer. Go to hardware tab and device manager. Drop down display adapaters. It should say Radeon 9600. Right click and remove or uninstall. Do not restart. Go to my computer, control panel, add/remove programs. Remove anything that begins with ATI and anything that is associated with your old video card...Like anything that says "nVidia"? Don't know what your old card was. Restart and install the new drivers you just downloaded.

          Ive done that, i think there is a bug in the newsest version of the caytalisyt driver....all the other video drivers have been removed.


          oh and funny thing it works fine with the comp is on its side but when i stand it up i get a black screen. wierd huh?

            not really.... the black screen can be caused by a broken wire, or just comp freezing when you move it...

            i also believe there is a glitch in the catalyst 4.2 that causes video cards to act funny (my card's fan is wacked after installing 4.3)

            if you have a built by ati card, get catalyst 4.1 or earlier (3.7 is supposed to be the best), but if it's powered by ati, get the newest manucafturer supported/supplied driver

                if its an overheating problem, you will get artifacts or snow like pixels appearing also the occasional lock-up.
