  • Why does windows restart???

A couple of minutes after i´ve started my computer i get a message saying "windows will restart in one minute, save all your unsaved work" or something like that. Then it says that the cause is that "remote procedure call" was unexpectedly closed. What do i do? It has never happend before. Please help me. FFXI will arrive in a week!!!

Are you running Windows XP? Are you running Norton Anti Virus? For some reason Norton can cause this problem. Use a freeware antivirus like AVG. It could be too that you HAVE a virus. If nothing else if you have Windows XP make yourself a new profile and delete the old one. That usually works but if it doesn't just reformat.

Dude it is possible u have the msblast virus from the sound of it.

U should be able to sort that out easy.

There should be a download on microsofts update for that since the virus only works because of a stupid problem with windows.

Well it only shuts down windows xp systems lol.

Daziz, it also effects 2000 (i think at least)

first run anti virus, else just press windows button+r and type shutdown.exe -a

If you do in fact have MSBlast keep in mind that you wouldn't if you checked windows for updates regularly. Just like you should defrag. They couldn't make it easier. It's right there on the start bar.

I did a "free-scan" on mcafee.com and i got like 4 viruses including msBlast. so i downloaded a free trial of bullguard anti virus program. The weird thing is that i got my computer back a couple of days ago with a brand new harddrive. and i got my internet working yesterday. How could i possibly get the msblast virus in a couple of minutes after i got my internet working?

MSBlast infections are the most easily contracted viral infections on the internet, chances are that your computer will contract it within 20 minutes of first being connected to the internet without the proper updates installed. I have reformatted and installed Windows quite a few times and ever since MSBlast came into the picture I have contracted it literally within minutes of installing XP. I have contracted and dealt with the virus 3 times on this system already.

Aside from virus scanning to remove it, you can use AdAware (www.lavasoft.de) to eliminate it for free. There is also a nice quick fix if you prefer:

Open your Control Panel and select Administrative Tools and select Component Services. In the Component Services window click the expand button (+ sign) next to the 'Component Services' option in the tree on the left. The next level will show a Folder called 'Computers' which you should also expand. Below 'Computers' there is an item called 'My Computer' that you must right click and select Properties for. In the Properties window select the 'Default Properties' tab and uncheck 'Enable Distrubuted COM on this computer.' and then close out with the okay button.

At this point MSBlast will no longer restart your computer and you can scan, remove, and update at your leisure.

                      Cheers. ^^

This is more of a quick fix than a solution to the problem; yes, you still have the virus, no, it won't bother you anymore. This is not a substitute to removing the virus, but rather something to keep your computer running smoothly until you can really clean it out.

I'm glad it worked out for ya. ^^
