    you guys are very helpful

I've had a few crashes with 9600XT while playing NFS: Underground.

Do any of you have a problem setting your AGP to 8x? I try to set mine in the control panel(the newest catalyst drivers) and it asks to restart, so i do and it goes back to 4x :'(. My mob does support 8x and it's enabled, do i set my AGP arpeture size to 128mb? Will that make a difference?? I have it set at 64 atm. thanks

well, the card rocks compared to my old Ati Mobility Radeon 7500c 32mb. It runs perfect with settings maxed out for me, although the crash issue might be on my side or EA's side, not ati. I'm sure it will be fixed though, ATI rocks. I've had good experiences with nvidia too i'm just saying, their both good i guess

for that whole AGP thing, I woulda thought that was done in the BIOS. I never knew that could be adjusted through drivers. Is this wrong?

apparently with my 9600XT drivers theres a tab under the config thing that allows you to set fast-write and agp speeds, both can also be set in bios to my knowledge, maybe it's for checking to see what your bios settings are idk, it doens't work for me, and i want 8x agp!!
is there any app i can use to tell me if 8x is enabled??

sorry for my ignorance in computers(im still learning), but what does bios do? Also, whats that thing about "updating drivers" for video cards?(there is a topic about a guy who said his video card crashed on ffxi and they told him to update his drivers)

              thanks

BIOS is what basically starts up yoru computer and controls everything on the hardware level. I'm not gonna tell you how to get it into it since u don't even know wut it is cause I don't want you to mess anything up. but in there, it allows for overclocking, deciding which drive takes precedence in start-up, and many other useful things. It's mostly for people who know what they are doing. Now updating drivers is usually considered one of the first thigns you should do if you ever have any problems. Drivers sometimes have bugs in them that make it difficult to play a game, and these bugs are usually fixed in the next driver that comes out. Unfortunately, newer bugs come. So it's a vicious cycle. But make sure you uninstall your old drivers b4 installing the new ones. I made the mistake of doing that once, and I had to reformat to get it to play any games well enough to bother lol

                    whoa! Congrats man!

I'm glad that the reason i only got 3200 on high is cause my proc and mem, not the card! I knew this card rocks, enjoy it :p.

                      Thanks

Well since you have a Radeon most likely you can just goto ATI's website and download the newest drivers, and try and install them. If it is made by another company but still a Radeon, you may need to check out that companies website. But try ATI's first. I know that Sapphire Radeon cards work with the ATI drivers, I'm assuming most other Radeons do too.

they should, also, make sure to get the most up-to-date drivers & bios for your mobo. Go to it's manufacturer's site adn d/l them and install. Unless you have a store-bought computer then, idk. I guess you'd still go to the mobo's site and d/l the drivers, if you can find out what company makes it that is .

that is only due to catalyst 3.9, and the agp apreture size/fastwrite can be changed though OS modding

vairu, it's either that your card runs too hot in 8x (dunno why; built in overclocker will put card in most stable config if too hot) or that your mobo "supports" 8x under certain conditions only.

when i upgraded the bios & drivers from my mobo's manufacturer's site it let me put into 8x, but it won't let me disable fast-write, i've heard that fast write is bad to have enabled, oh well. FFXI runs and looks great so i'm cool

Your gunna need to reset any Apg or fastwright setting in the Bios, the ati cp doesnt override your pcs settings. Its kinda useless being added in like it was to the drivers.

Depends on if fastwrights is bad or good, some people get serious trouble with it on, just make sure if its on/off in the CP it says the same thing in the bios.
