regardless, if you know what you are doing it doesn't matter what you buy - you are going to get something that you can customize and upgrade.
and - you'll never even see the local computer shop because you don't need to pay for the expertise that you already have. i'm not saying that all local businesses are 'chop shops', i'm sure that 80% or more are not.... but i have seen a few and that sucks.
it's just like taking the car in for a checkup or a flat tire or something and you end up needing a new transmission...
if you don't know what you are doing you are much more likely to be taken advantage of.
