  • Low FF XI scores

    Hello:

I downloaded the FF XI benchmark and I tested it out on my laptop. My result is
    3200 on low resolution
    1900 on high resolution

    My system specification is
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
    1024MB DDR266 SODIMM
    60GB HD 4200RPM
    64MB Geforce FX go 5600

I also tested it out on my friend's system as well with the same benchmark. He scored

    3000 on low resolution
    1900 on high resolution

    His specifcation is

    Athlon XP 2800+
    Nforce 2 Motherboard
    512MB Single Channel DDR333
    120GB HD 5400RPM
128Mb Geforce 4 MX 440 shared from the system RAM.

Isn't my system have much better video card than his? I have the Geforce FX go 5600, which is very similar to the Geforce FX 5600 non-ultra version. I also did some other benchmark on my laptop as well

    I got 10000 on 3D Mark 2001 SE
    I got 2500 on 3D Mark 2003

My friend got 5000 on 3D Mark 2001 SE
My friend got 700 on 3D Mark 2003

Is there anything wrong with my system? Any comments or suggestion will be appreicated.

Why is my scores so low? Geforce FX 5600 is far better than Geforce 4 MX 440. I'm confused

    Sincerely

I think it's nVidia's drivers to be honest. I have a GeForce 4 ti 4400 and the game has lag spikes quite frequently when I play.

I suggest tweaking the living heck out of your operating system. I managed to drop my Win XP page file usage from 179 Mb to 107-112 Mb. About 117 Mb with winamp running.

After tweaking the crap out of XP I managed to score a 2900 in the high res on benchmark 2.

For refrerence, I have an ASUS A7V8X motherboard, 512 PC 2700 DDR, and an MSI GeForce 4 ti 4400... Please note my card does not use the 8X AGP that my motherboard can handle. I was in a hurry to get rid of my Voodoo5 5500. My HD is a 120 GB, but is partitioned into a 5 Gb partition for windows, 10 Gb for programs, and 90+ Gb for anything else I decide to throw on there, and my 1 Gb of virtual memory of course.

I recently over clocked my card from the default 405 memory / 275 core to 554 / 300. My benchmarks jumped to 3310 in high res.

I have not over clocked my processor because I do not have a lot of fans in my case, and I don't want to fry it. My GFX card came with a good fan so I figured it would be fine with a little bit of overclocking. I have heard people going to 600 / 300 with default cooling systems so I figured I would be ok. I haven't had any crashes running benchmarks so I think it will be fine.

I would suggest tweaking windows first. If the game / benchmarks are still really low, then maybe try overclocking. Of course, you can always wait for the next nVidia driver set. I am stuck with a ton of homework right now anyways, so I hardly get to play. I hope new drivers are released soon though. The 52.16 are pretty good, but the game is still not running quite perfect for me yet.

Ok, I spent few days researching and tweak the heck out of my windows XP system. My XP page file is at 80MB. And my system have 1GB of RAM. I tried to find new drivers on the web, unfortuately, I cannot find any new drivers and it seems the one came with my laptop is the newest of all. I can overclock my laptop's video card but I can only go from 275Mhz core, 300Mhz DDR Memory to 300Mhz core, 300Mhz DDR Memory, which is the maxium i can go. I agree with you that it is the Nvidia driver, I'm currently using the 43.xx one, I'd wish I can install the 52.16 so that my performance will double. I knew it, I should of look for the Mobility Radeon 9600 PRO 64MB instead, the Geforce FX go 5600 just have too many problems with Direct 3D. Thanks for your help

      Sincerely
