  • Benchmark question - need advice

Here is what I'm running. I think the low scores might be from my graphics card.

    Athlon 64
    ASUS K8V Motherboard
    512MB DDR SDRAM 400Mhz PC3200 Corsair
    128MB GeForce 4 Ti4400
    40GB HD

    High: 2650
    Low: 3418

I see people with Athlon XP 2200 machines with a GeForce 4 Ti4800 get the same or better scores. I'm not running any other apps. during the test. I've updated to the latest nVidia drivers too. What are the main issues? Thanks for any help.

    Hey Sabre,

ive noticed that the Benchmark results rely heavily on processor power and available ram. for comparison here are my laptop specs:

    Sager 5680
    p4 2.8ghz fsb800
    1024mb DDR400 Dual Channel
    60 gig 7200rpm
    128 ATI M-10pro(9600pro Mobility)

I score about 3700 on high without any tweaks. and i havent clocked low res... i didnt feel the need to with such good high res numbers =D though im sure the vid card plays a important role too, the 1000 point increase isnt just because of the different cards. unfortunetly (or fortunetly =D ) there isnt really a game right now that absolutly maxs the performance of the sager laptops...guess ill have to wait for HL2 for that....but this game should look absolutly brilliant on it ^^

for more information on Sagers there are lots of places you can go, but i recommend http://pctorque.com and their message boards http://talknotebooks.com great community and awesome information for anyone looking to buy a desktop replacment.

      Hello,

      How fast is Athlon 64?

Did you install the AGP driver from the VIA 4in1 package or other driver. I got the AGP driver from the CD provided by the video card. Try exploring the cds!

The Athlon 64 runs at 2.0 GHz, althought it is faster for most gaming apps than a 3.0 P4. It has a 1,600 FSB with an L2 cache of 1 gig. I did update the AGP driver from the CD I believe. Should I look for an online update? I upgraded to DirectX 9 as well. What is the best tweak to get most out of the card/processor? So are the memory and the video card the cause for the lower scores?

you mean 1 meg of L2 Cache....

Your ram is probobly at a 5:4 ratio and slows down your comp... unfortuanatly there isnt anything you can do about that except buy PC4200 ram... your FBS is soo high that unless you have Kingston HyperX 3200 your not gonna be able to do 1:1. Plus that is about what i expect to see a 4400 TI at. Also the via chipset blows, but since you have a A64... is it the FX or just the 64? anyway since you have that Proc, its gonna make up for the crappy via chipset... and unfortunatly i believe VIA is the only chipset for the A64.
