  • Motherboard installation problem

God, I feel stupid... anyway, here's the story. I've been planning on upgrading my computer for a while, but at first I only planned on getting a new graphics card. Only after purchasing it during my attempted installation did I realize that my motherboard does not have an AGP slot. So I ordered a new motherboard, an ABIT IS7-E. Last night I attempted an installation, except this time I realized the board will not fit in my computer. It is ATX fitting, so I'm guessing my case is Micro-ATX.

So, my question is whether I should attempt to return the motherboard and go for a Micro-ATX, or, should I get a new case and reinstall everything in that? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My dream of playing FFXI upon release is dead.

I'm not sure what you are talking about with Micro-ATX. Anyway, does it have too many PCI slots and your box has fewer? That is one of the main things to look at when buying a board. Make sure the slots match up to what your box can hold. Other than that, I haven't encountered many problems with motherboards fitting. If you don't want to wait, go buy a relatively cheap box to hold all your stuff. Returning it will take much longer.

Just buy a new case. If you send the motherboard back they charge you a restocking fee.

What kind of computer is your old system? At any rate, a decent case from newegg can run from about $30 - $100, and you'll probably want an ATX power supply to go with that. Still, it sounds as if that may just be your best option for getting everything up and running.
