  • HELP! GeFORCE 2 Not good???

Hi PPL. I Just Went over a LOT of Specs on How good your PC needs to be to Support Final Fantasy XI Online. I'm Very Worried about my machine not being good enough. I spent a bunch on my machine and I consider my machine to be " THE AVERAGE AMERICAN PC" CAN ANYONE out there give me any insight into how well FFXI will play on my PC. IF anyone knows about this stuff please Post me =o) Thank you.

    Here are my Stats.....

    Sony VAIO
    2.0 Gighertz AMD Athlon Proccessor
    480 MB of Ram
    60 Gig Hard drive
    56K Modem
    Windows XP home edition

Sony HMD-A240 and NVIDIA GeForce2 Integrated GPU
    On-board Memory - 32 MB
    IRQ - 19
    total Phisical Memory - 490,000

    THANKS PPL =o) HAPPY PLAYING!

you'll more than likely need a new card, i'd recommend something in the geforce 4 ti series (44 or 4600) since they're 100 or so.. maybe less on ebay =D they'll run it great

Well, I can tell you one thing...BENCHMARK!!! But yah, that integrated GPU is crap . My friend has the exact comp as you. He seems to play other games fine, but those ones aren't nearly good as FFFXI . Check out your benchmark score to be sure, but i can assure you later on, that integrated GPU will be your downfall .

yea your video card is the only thing you really have to worry about. if i were you i would get a Direct x9 video card. im a geforce man so ill speak for that brand. Get anything higher than the Fx5600 Ultra...anything lower wouldnt really be worth your time trust me. just because you might see a fx5200 for a cheap price whats the point when Half life 2 and Doom 3 come out and you cant play

anyhoo just my 2 cents errrr gil i guess

reason a lot of people get the 5200 fx and not the the others
          PCI slot

most likely he does not have a AGP slot

and will have to get the 5200fx so he can get a pci one

and yes the 5600 is way way better then the 5200..but your hardware may not run it

            Thanks for the info guys.

I tried out the Benchmark and scored a 1850 on low graphix. It seemed to work Pretty good.

I do have one more Question for you guys though......

If I have only about $50 bucks to spend, what Graphix card could I get, and would it even be worth it?

            Thanks again ppl =o)

You can prob get a 64 meg card for 50 bucks. Geforce 4 MX440 runs around 50 bucks. But to be honest going from a 32 meg to a 64 meg , will not make much diffence at all.

If you plan on upgrading your card, dont buy a 50 buck one. You wont see much if any difference at all. Best to save your cash and buy a good 128 meg instead.

something to note about the geforce FX series. Your better off with a high end geforce 4 unless you go for 5600. the FX series is riddled with, using kind terms, many negligent oversights that make it a poor quality card. Theyre all fixed up in the 5600 model though so no worries there.

Standard now is GF4 MX 440 card or a radeon equivilant. Like someone said you could get that card for 50$ easy. If i were you ild spend about 30$ extra and get a radeon 9000 with 128 mb on it. Its a great card for your money, easily runs circles around an mx. Not sure how well radeons work with that game, but my brother scored higher than you and hes on a 1.3ghz, 256mb (133) w/radeon 9000.

Your computer is being seriously bottle necked by your vid card, its definitely time for an upgrade

As it stands now, with your integrated GPU, you won't even be able to run the game, let alone play it comfortably.

The 5200FX is really a bad card. I realize that it's about $70 less than a 5600FX Ultra or a Radeon 9600 Pro and that might be a reason you feel you should pick the 5200FX. Unfortunately this just doesn't pan out. I was able to score over 2500 with the 5200 FX on low res with no problems and the game ran smoothly. If you only have $100 and don't mind low res mode, then this might be a good choice for you. However, my high res score was 2500 and the game was just unplayable.

I returned the 5200FX for a Radeon 9600PRO, payed another $70 and am very happy I did so. I am now getting 3200 on low and 3800 on high. The game is perfect for me on high and is so much better looking than on low there is no comparison. If you can find another $70, buy the Radeon 9600PRO or even a 5600FX Ultra.

You may actually be happier with the 5600 FX Ultra. If the framerate is good, you may find the graphics to be better. My 5200FX had better graphics - it just needed the framerate to go with it. I chose the 9600PRO because I have read several statements about it supporting DX9 better and is more designed with the future in mind and I want a vid card that will last longer, not necessarily one that is the best for FFXI.

Never get a card with MX in the name... Its like a car dealership selling you a corvette with a 4 cylinder in it... they make money off those who don't know any better.

a score of 1850 is hadly not even being able to play the game.

But Fire is right, for $50 the 9000pro will do you good. Even has TV out if you want it. Not a bad deal at all, I may have to get one.
