  • Need Some Help

The problem i am having is my computer just shuts down. It doesnt give me any warning it just shuts down. I checked every other problem that could have caused this and it concluded to the new ram i put in. So my friend told me that i have to reformat my computer meaning a whole load of work. I just wanted to know if someone tell me how to start it. I have the boot disk already and im set for that, its just my friend told me that i need a driver for my motherboard and i checked and no luck there. So i just wanted to know maybe is someone can help me out.

On the paper that came with my pc it said my motherboard is Kenora 650 with video,Sound,Lan
Thats is wat it said on the paper then i took the sandra test and it said my motherboard was Seanix SIS-650.

Can someone please help me out
    Thanks a lot

Dont trust your bios. It only reads the themal sensor that its assigned. It could be your CPU heating up (is fan spinning on CPU?) or it could be your Power supply heating up, or even your north bridge chipset (big computer chip on your motherboard with heatsinks on it). Check out how hot the comp is with the side open.

Assuming you are still having issues after trying to fry eggs on your case, you might consider the following (if it was a heat issue, grats - cheap fix)...

While there are a billion possible reasons a computer would just shut down (heat, bad power supply, hardware conflicts, OS issues... and the list goes on). the statement you made about new memory jumps right out.

Did your PC ever have issues before you put the new memory in? Did it start to have problems immediately after you installed the memory? I am guessing that if your problems started after you installed the memory, that is your problem. You need to get the specs on your motherboard and find out what kind of memory it supports and how much it can handle.

Generally if you are using unsupported memory your system will not boot - it will just beep at you (whatever the post code is for memory). However, sometimes it will. I have a motherboard that accepts PC3200 memory but the fine print says it can only handle some configurations. My system would boot with PC 3200 (400MHz) and after 5 or 10 minutes it would crash. I went to PC 2700 (333MHz) memory and have not crashed since. Check into this. BTW, I am assuming that Kenora is the manufacturer of the motherboard, 650 is the model, and Seanix is the chipset manufacturer - I am sure someone can tell me if I am wrong.

Even is the memory is supported by your motherboard, it might be defective. If you have more than one memory stick, boot with just one and see what happens, then remove it and boot with another. Even if all works it is possible that the combination of 2 or more is not supported. If none of this pans out, it is possible that your power supply is having issues, something is conflicting, or, like has been suggested, you are just running too hot.

As for reloading your computer - get used to it - it's part of keeping your system running smooth - stupid Microsoft... I reload once or twice a year.
