  • My DVD drive is gone from MY COMP..

i was wonderign if someone here could help me out
i got this computer from a friend of mine
it has a CDRW drive and a DVD drive
the dvd drive i dont know what type or what its called because it doesnt show up on the MY Computer
instead of it being there, there's something there called "Virtual Clone Drive"
searching through google i found that Clone CD does this, even though i uninstalled clone cd and tried "add new hardware" im still unable to install this dvd drive
i've checked the inside of course and everything is connected

p.s. this is an updated computer its not a P.O.S.

check to see if the the dvd drive is recognized at all... then take apart the comp and check what company/model it is, download the drivers, hope for it to work.... other than that, wait for aerobahn to come to the resque, unless fire or inutrunks has experiance in this:confused:

make sure the IDE cable is plugged in right.... and the power cable... yes... try to find the manufacturer's name the model of the drive and get the latest drivers and firmware (firmware is dangerous, don't touch unless u know what u're doing). WinXP should detect all optical drives...

oh yeah make sure the master and slave jumpers on the optical drives are set right...

first off can you see the drive in the bios? when your comp first boots up it displays a list of your drives. If you do not see it there your jumpers are wrong. How old is the drive by the way?

Aye, in my personal experience it's usually jumpers set wrong, or the ribbon cable isnt on fully.

Either the jumpers, ribbon cable or disabled in the BIOS.

From what I have read on Virtual Clone Drive this is not an uncommon problem (of course, you found that out in your reasearch too). It sounds like another possibility, in addition to those mentioned already, is that your OS has not released the drive letter that had been used by the VCD. you might try going into Disk Management in your Administrative Tools and looking to see if the VCD is still listed. If so, try changing the drive letter to one you know is not in use (like L: ) or something. Reboot and see if the DVD is there.

                Just another thought...
