CPU switching question.

I have a Computer that has a 2 Ghz Celeron Chip currently in it upgradable to a Pentium 4. I have an extra Pentium 4 2.2 chip.
My question is when I switch chips is there any procedures I should follow or will it automatically recognize the new chip? I have upgraded vid cards, sound cards, and hard drives before but never the CPU. Any help would be sweet

Check your motherboard manual, see what it says. You might not be able to use 'auto' settings in the bios.

For my motherboard (soyo kt-400 dragon ultra) it says that t-birds need to be set in the bios, where as athlons and durons can be auto set.

caska, you already posted this at the CG forum.....

if you upgrade from 2.2 celeron to 2.2 p4, i suggest you get a new heatsink+cpu fan.
