  • My Future/ First self built Computer

I finally had it with my emachine I finally thought it was time that I finally build my own computer game machine/tv so I could do two things on one machine.

This is what I had in mind in my build, I am looking for work, not many places are hiring so I could look into a job during the holiday season. The whole build includes a monitor and just pretty much a complete build but I need opinions and etc before I can actually decide.

Id change that LCD to a 19"CRT and get 2 x 512Mb DDr 3200 ram instead. No way your going to have good gameplay using 256mb ram. Also why buy a floppy drive? take the one out of your old comp and save 7$.

Well the thing that sticks out the most is your lack of ram, 256mb won't cut it anymore, especially in win xp...Go for at least 512 megs

Other than that everything looks pretty good, though i didn't really take a good look at everything so i prob missed something:p

You may not enjoy a CPU with bus speeds of 333mhz. I know I wouldn't. Your motherboard supports up to 400mhz, so go for it, it'll end up being less money when you realize you decide to can the LCD screen and save about 300 bucks buying a CRT which is better for gaming. Also, your motherboard has three slots for ram, so you might consider adding another stick or two of the ram you're looking at. Two should run FFXI with flying colors (no pun intended) so you might want to leave it at that. You'll save more money if you skip the Raedon 9800 All-in-wonder and just get the pro. I think the pro is actually faster since it doesn't support all the useless (for the sake of FFXI anyway) crap that the wonder does. The 4 case fans might be a bit unnecessicary, and try to find ones with ball bearings, they're more reliable than sleeve bearing fans. That oughta do it, it'll end up costing roughly 150-200 bucks less and will perform much better.

P.S. Keep in mind that the computer you've got on the wishlist right now will run FFXI just fine and it's a pretty good setup. The changes I made are things worth considering, and many will save you money, but it's your choice. The only one I would kind of insist on is ditching the monitor. That's really damn expensive and LCD's still do ghost a bit on high-end games.
... or maybe I'm just a complete idiot.

Your motherboard has intergrated audio, and despite what some people say they're really not that bad. So unless you have some really great surround sound system you're planning to use with the game, you can save 190 bucks and use the one on the motherboard, since you're paying for it anyway.

I was thinking of dropping the monitor and just go with building the computer and then later on adding the monitor. I think I will shop around before I pick a monitor from newegg. Now I want to know what things aren't needed, what things should I change and etc.

Yes, drop the CRT< and the sound card. You don't need thouse. The onboard sound is good. Unless you have a 1000$ sound system (I'm assuming you dont), then don';t get the z2 5, it's not worth it. With yoru chipset get another stick of the kingston ddr ram, and get a barton with a 400 fsb (up the ram to 400 ddr (3200) get 2x 512.

Also, go for a hdd with atleast an 8ms seek time, and if possable, a bigger cache (alot of improvement). Also, drop the light, it's not needed, unless you plan on going to lan parties tomorrow after you build this computer, it's a waste of cash.

Also, just letting you know, you got rounded floppy cables, not IDE cables, there is a big difference, you might want to change thouse over. (Susprised that no one cought that).

Also, if you want the Radeon 9800 pro, you can get it from best buy for 349 with free shipping till the end of october, the 9800 is 249 /w free shipping till the end of october.

              other then that, nice machine.

I plan on going other sites to see which has better price on things that I want. I am not really going to buy all things directly from newegg.com, but the wish list is storta giving me a visual since I never built a computer before I really want the casing so that just be the only thing I will order from newegg.com.

looking at that wishlist at newegg got me thinking of a pretty decent challenge(sp) for InuTrunks and aerobahn.

Use that website, and that website alone and build the best computer. Money isn't an option, so go crazy.

Include all parts including accessories, and then post the link to the results. I think that would be interesting.

P.S. All parts must work with each other.

Well, I just had some NewEgg fun. Here's what I picked up:

MB NFORCE2 A7N8X DELUXE ASUS RTL
                              N82E16813131436R
                              $69.00

                              CPU AMD|2500 /333 ATHLON XP BARTON%
                              N82E16819103378
                              $85.00

CPU FAN AMD|BB DR THERM TI-V77N RT
                              N82E16835113002
                              $11.99

                              Shipping and Handling
                              6.00

                              Total
                              $171.99

Now, I would NOT RECOMMEND this cooler for a Barton Athlon that I bought here -- the copper core doesn't cover the entire die. That said, I am running the FFXI bechmark in loop with the processor @ 203MHz/12x multiplier= 2.436GHz. That's well above a 3200+. And apparently they all go nearly as high with no trouble.

Add a Radeon card of your choice, 512MB RAM, and the other little bits, and it'll be very nice. I'm still deciding on the exact video card.
