  • Please, if anyone knows how to install graphic cards, HELP!

Okay, here's the deal. I got a new graphics card, a Radeon 9800 128 MB AGP graphics card! Okay, today I tried to install it, and I'm having some problems! Okay, this is what I did.

I opened up the case of my DELL computer, which is plastic, and found where my OLD GRAPHICS card was. I was like, oh this is easy, lets just Pull it out and everythings great, and then just connect it to the power supply and the hard drive. Well when I went to try and take it out, it was stuck! I found out the old card went on the back of the outside, a blue connector looking thing, and if you look more to the side, a little silver thing, which also kept the card in place. I'm having so much trouble with this, I don't know what to do.

I looked everywhere, and The instructions suck!! Please, someone who knows about computers help. I unscrewed the blue part, and it jiggles, but I still can't pull it out because of the little metal thingy at the side, and the blue thing which makes me un able to go left or right.

Please, anyone with strick details, please help!

    ASAP

    I really appreciate it!

        Here ya go.

        Helpful hints

        1) DO NOT PLACE YOUR CARD ANYWHERE ON THE FLOOR, make sure it's always in the anti static bag.

        2) Do not place your computer flat on the floor (I'm assuming you have carpet.

        3) Read the instructions over before you start.

        Tools needed.

        1) Screw driver.

        pre replace.

        1) unplug your computer

        2) set your computer on the table, not the floor

        3) open up your computer.

        Steps.

        1) First unplug any connectors that are connected to your old graphcis card. DO NOT UNPLUG ANYTHING ELSE INSIDE YOUR COMPUTER.

2). Unscrew your old graphics card.

        3) Slowly pull out the old graphcis card (straight out, do NOT BEND THE CARD (up and down). Pull straight out. If it won't come out, wiggle it left and right. do not bend the card.

3b) What I mean by left and right is the way the card is plugged in <----------------------> bend that way. not up and down, you can break the card that way.

        4) unwrap your new graphics card.

        5) The card is keyed. plug it in, with the metal peice by the ouside of the case. it should fit right in.

        6) Plug up any thing persay of the instructions (should be a power connector that you need to plug in

        7) close the case

        8) connect your monitor.

        power on!

If your running windows xp, you should get a message saying, new graphics card found. new hardware. install the drivers off the cd and you're ready to go!

If you need any help before you start, feel free to message me on aim. if you want pictures. tell me and I'll take pictures for the step by step.

Does the little metal thing at the side have a screw in it? Probably does. This is used to secure your video card to the case, so you dont have a card thats only connected to your mobo and nothing else.

Unscrew the metal peice, pull out the card. Follow the instructions and put your new card in. Its as simple as that.

The only other thing i can thing of is your mobo could have a plug on the apg slot that keeps the card from popping out. But im thinking thats the blue part you unscrewed.

And, if all else fails. Take it to your local CompUSA or a computer repair shop and have them do it. Itll cost ya though =).
