What kind of ram is it? ddr, sd? either way buy another 256 megs of ram and a new video card to up your score. I suggest a radeon 9600 pro.

i second a mem upgrade, but the graphics card can stay if you are low on cash. you will have to replace it later though.

I think I might go with more ram, I have the money for a gig, but I've been told that i dont really need it. Anyhow I am going to research prices of both a good video card and ram and see if I canmanage both.

btw I think I have ddr

where did you buy your computer and what model? You should buy the exact same speed and size of ram.

ok, after a quick research of the products, I found that the ATI RADEON 9600 PRO is around the same price as the memory in question. I am wondering what would make the most difference because I cant afford both.

It would have to be DDR SDRAM since it is a Althon XP+ CPU. Most lickely it is 233 MHz DDR. whoever said that you do not need 1 gig of RAM you should slap in the face, I would love to have 1 gig, but can not afford it. You really need the RAM up grade, and also what are your virtual ram settings and what is your hard drive size and RPM's?

                  More ram

Ya, I'd get ram. Make sure that if you're using DDR, that the stick you get is the same speed and size, and if you can help it, is the same brand as the stick you already have. This will allow your motherboard to utilize the ram more quickly then if you have different sticks of ram. Also, check you mobo to find out where you need to put the two sticks, some mobos have 3 or 4 slots, and the ram needs to be in a certain slot for it to work properly.

ok I have a good idea of where to put the ram, however; ive heard of horror stories about frying memory while sitting on a carpet. Is there any special precautions i should take?

There is a chance of static electricity recking a component of your computer. But I wouldn't be too worried about it normally. Just to be safe, unplug your computer, hit the power and reset button just to get rid of any stray electricity inside. Wait about 5 minutes or so(probably don't have to, but if yer worried about it) And you may wanna make sure you're on a tile or wood floor without socks on. I've never had any problems, but I guess you can never be too careful. Ram is pretty straight forward, and you shouldn't have too many problems.
