  • Take a look at my computer...(concerning video card)

    Pentium 4, 1.9 GHz
    512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)
    38.3 GB Hard Drive

Now my Video Card I'd rather not mention, because it's rather shameful. Anywho, could anyone put down a list of fairly good video cards, and about how well they would work on my computer? I'm not the most computer literate person in the world when it comes to stuff like this, so any help would be appreciated.

you = poor = Radeon9600 or GFX 5600, you can play the game smooth most of time but who knows?

you = rich/have a job/mommy or daddy gonna pay = Radeon 9800 pro. With this card you can get a new girl friend become President of the United States and play FFXI with the bomb shizzity snip sack slap graphics.

well your cpu is kinda low, if you can afford get atleast 2.2-2.4
ram is fine it seems but MMORPGs use lots so 1gig could be better.

if you go the 5600 route. you will have decent gameplay and godd graphics.

if you go the 9800pro route. you can add effects like AA and AF. turn up everthing thing have a high resolution back buffer. all that mean is good gameplay and AWESOME graphics.

but you will need a faster cpu and more ram for those effects.

Get another 256 MB of ram if you're upgrading the video card. FFXI and minimal windows XP services will use more than 512 MB, but a little less than 768 MB, when you use uncompressed textures, mipmapping, and bumpmapping.

Don't bother upgrading the CPU, unless you have money to burn.

Nvidia's Geforce4 ti series cards, or ATI radeon 9500 are the lowest video cards you should get. 64MB on the card is too little, 256MB is too much, 128MB is just right.

            hey.

Just get a really good video card and forget the RAM. Your RAM is perfect. It's even over the recommended requirements for FFXI. Get a better video card if you want to have a great FFXI experience.

Tell him to forget the ram when he starts swapping. He will know who to beat down...

a better cpu (2.4 and above p4 or a 2200+ athalon), and a little more ram will help your system better than getting the best video card(as long as you get an ok one, ti4200 is cheap and good w/64mb or 128mb 8xagp). if you plan on using next gen games such as WISH (it's going into beta soon, it'll be ready by 4Q 2004), which needs a 2.4gh cpu, 512mb ram, and a dx9 compliant card (if you get the nvidia detonator fx 45.23 driver, even the nvidia tnt2 becomes that), you won't be able to play at all.
