  • FX5600 or 9600 Pro

I was searching threw a thread that had a list of different video cards and there percentage they were given but I did not see anything for a g force fx 5600 nor did I see one for an ati 9600 pro. Since I was thinking of getting one of these cards I wanted to see what you all thought about them. Which do you all think is better?

    hi!

Well, your a luckey person to have me here at this time. I have carefully researched both the Geforce Fx's and Radeon's video cards. It turns out from my research that the Geforce FX is right smack in the middle of the Geforce MX and Geforce4 Ti and into the Geforce4 Ti series a little. Just cause it's not on the list, doesn't mean you should fret (IT does say on the list on their site that not all the vid cards are there, just the popular ones.). Both cards would do fine, but I have to make a decision for you... Hm.. Well both have 128MB and Direct 9.0. Well, each one is pretty even, but... If I had the money, I'd get a Radeon 9600 because on the FFXI Official SiteFFXI OFFICIAL SITE It is on "their" list as recommended video cards.. (click system; windows and scroll down or something like that.)

(EDIT: No it is not on the recommended list oh well..)

But it says it's only for reference... Hm... well.. Go for the Radeon 9600 if the price is right, because both vid cards aren't worth it if it is above the other in price. For example, the Radeon 9600 PRO is 300 dollars and The Geforce Fx 5600 is 150 dollars.. Then get the Geforce... you know what I mean? Of course you do.... Well good luck! (Hint: Go for the Radeon 9600 PRO)

I wouldn't worry though. Both of those cards will work great with FFXI....

In fact, because of my budget and limited slots availabilty *coughPCIcough* I have to get a Geforce Fx 5200 PCI (not Ultra). *Sigh* I'm the one who should be worrying... heh.. Well, see ya later.

Well I just have to start off by saying thanks for your help.
On a side note the G force FX 5600 that I was looking at actually had 256 mb of ddr ram. So that was one reason I leaned towards it. The over all price was cheaper then the 9600 due to a sale at compusa which initially both cards were the same price for 199 thats why I was gonna go with the 9600 at first but I saw the 5600 and decided what the heck and get it since it was the last one.
So I hope my choice was a good one, I just wish I could find a list that told me how it fit into that list but after reading your post I see now where it fits thanks alot.

This has got to stop. 256 megs of memory does not mean ANYTHING on a 5600. It won't be any faster than the 128 version. Its all marketing, Just like how they said a few years back that buying an aluminuim case would make everything cooler.

The truth of the matter is in order to utilize 256megs of memory you need 2 things
        1. The game itself has to be able to utilize it.
        2. You will only notice a difference at HIGH resolutions like 1600x1200. You can't even play that resolution on a 5600.

its like having a V8 engine but only 1 wheel.

You need more pipelines like 8 or even better 16, high core speeds. ect

the 9600,5600 and not even the 5900 or 9800's can fully reap benifits with 256mb of memory. And they never will. when games finnaly are at the point when 256mb yeilds improvments. all those cards will be outdated anyways.

but back to your question i would pick the 9600, better performence. But with either cards the game will run just FINE

I like Ati's dedication to image quality and full dx9 support. From what I've read the FX has some trouble with some DX9 applications.

I went ahead and returned my 5600 and bought the 9600 pro my original choice mind ya. It just goes to show that even if its on sale that doesn't mean it should always be bought. Gut instinct is the way to go.

Beside had to many negative feed backs about FX 5600 doing my own research.

Thanks for your help everyone who gave there 2 cents.
