Anyone else getting consistent game freezes?

When I'm logged onto FFXI, sometimes the game just freezes on me. No idea why. I thought it was an unstable overclock, but i could do Prime95 for almost a full day. Specs are below. I get freezes usually when just walking around, but when I'm grouped I never get any freezes. Thanks.


2100+@2200Mhz, 166 FSB
512 MB DDR333 (to be in sync w/ CPU)
Radeon 9700 Pro
Epox 8rda+ nforce2 board

most likely it's your overclocking/nforce2 board. you need to turn off the integrated graphics, and allow the 9700pro do the work. if it is off, or it is not doing the majority of the work (don't know how that would work), it's the overclocking.

the OC should be fine. I ran prime stable for about 40 hours. I have no integrated vid card, i'm using an Epox 8rda+. My radeon is at stock speeds as well. Also when I run check files, I have errors in two of my sound files.

if you have an error in a sound file, it can cause the game to crash... you should have said that before. just turn off music and fx sounds till you fix that, unless you already did that. Epox 8rda+ nforce2 board, the nforce2 part is an integrated graphics circuit, the good-old bad comps had the nforce instead of intel integrated (amd doesn't want intel graphics right?).

did you overclock eveything, or just the cpu and gpu?

is it possible to manually update those two sound files? the install says I have to completely reinstall the game. I only OC'd the CPU, i haven't touch teh GPU at all. What do you mean by "nforce2 part is an integrated graphics circuit"? There is no integrated graphics on the board at all. Also the radeon is one of the early ones, with the bad shim.

do you have import or beta?
if you have beta, and you have a friend with beta, have him copy the files on a floppy, zip, or a cd-rw(so he can use it again later).
if you have import and have a friend with it also, do the same.
if you don't have friends with the same game (beta with beta, imopt and import), you'll have to ask someone else.

your last option is to reinstall the game a re input the codes. that may take a while.

Alll right, I guess i'm forced to do that. Thing is, i get freezes at any time, but USUALLY when i'm moving around a lot. For example in windurst, I got a lot of freezes lately, when about a month ago I got no errors, so I'm guessing some patch may have done something.

Hm, everyone i asked said they do not have the file either. At least now we know its not a sound problem.
