  • Regarding My PC!! READ

    Just bought this PC:

    Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz front side bus
New Intel® 865PE chipset with Dual Channel DDR SDRAM support
256 MB of Dual Channel DDR 400MHz or 333MHz SDRAM, upgradeable to 2 GB
    4 DIMM slots
64 MB DDR Nvidia® GeForce4 MX 420 graphics card with TV out, 8x AGP Bus Speed
    40 GB HD
    Broadband.

What do you guys think my benchmark score will be around? Do you guys think I can play at a good settings level? Also, I have some time to upgrade before English FFXI PC comes...

    " Input Voltage: 100 to 120 V at 60Hz, 200 to 240V at 50Hz

    Output Wattage: 250W maximum continuous

    Heat Dissipation: 853 BTU/hour (fully loaded - w/o monitor)

    Backup Battery: 3.0 V CR2032 coin cell

    "
The new radeon 9800 pro i beleive requires 300W? Will this be a problem and if so am I able to upgrade the Wattage? And what specific ram sticks should I get from Corsair for my pc?

you can buy a power source anywhere computer parts are sold, but i suggest you get the atx 300w power source from apex. it's not quite budget, but it will help you, specially since it's designed for p4 with ht tech. but, as aerobahn said, get more ram dude, it will help you much more than the 9800 pro. right now you can double your ram for <100, and triple for less than 250. get a better hdd too.

i would recommend the Ernmax 450 watt, which is what i use and it is amazing and never failed me. Yes get more RAM, at least have over 512. A new HD would not hurt either.

Buy two sticks of 256mb ddr333 ram, or two sticks of 512mb ddr333 ram.
Get a power supply with at least 350 output watts if you want to upgrade the video card.
You will have below average FPS in pretty much any battle situation. That video card also won't allow you to use bumpmapping on surfaces.

Your specs are fine if your upgrade to 512 ram. But I would suggest that you upgrade your video card. A geforce 4 ti 4200 is around $100 now and I heard a Ati 9600 pro with 256 ram is under $200 now.

Are these good for the ram : http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/pro...024-3200ll.pdf ?
Also, on the graphics card, I'm aiming for the Radeon 9800 so i won't have to upgrade anything in that area for a good while. If I upgrade, can I keep the 40hdd and get an 80? to make it 120?

That ram is decent enough but Crucial would have been a better choice preformance wise.
I would not suggest spending that much money on a video card. The 9600 will last you quite a while.
Yes you can keep your current HDD and get a new one but the data will be on 2 seperate drives.
