i suggest you don't upgrade to fx, instead, buy a ti 4600 of fx 5600 apart.

    finally got back to edit:
things to remove from your list
-Wireless Networking Solution: New Dell™ TrueMobile™ USB Wireless Adapter for Desktops
-Hard Drive: 40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive (7200 RPM) 40
-Monitor: 15 in E151FPb Flat Panel Display
    things to add
-hdd 80 gig 7200 rpm or higher (80 is only $40 extra)
-monitor 17" dell sharp 1704 flat panel(increased size, much better resolution, better looking, faster refesh, much wider viewing angles)
-wireless, get linksys wireless pci card supporting 801.11g(56mb/s, that's 5x of the dell crap), and wireless router supporting 801.11g (total for both is about $120 if you can set it up yourself, it's easy enough).

it should cost you maybe an extra $100-150, but it will be very well spent.

For $1000, if you built it yourself, you could upgrade the video card to the highest or second to highest card and not have to worry about using a geforce fx 5200. That's kind of a budget video card.
      Warning level cat face.

i would say dont get wireless unless you have to. not worth the extra money unless you really need it.

i wouldnt get flat panel either (unless sometimes dell has a free upgrade to 15" flat panel). from what i hear, you cant set custom refresh rates, and the price is overall too hefty for what it's worth. if you're in a tiny dorm or really need to save space, then go for it.

the 5200 fx will do fine, but it is a budget card.. not exactly the greatest performance. if you dont mind not having a really great card, just something cheaper that will get the job done, then it's a great card. not too sure about what dell offers though. i do know that when buying a computer online from dell i think you have to select all the main components, so you cant choose not to have a video card and then get one later and install yourself. to answer your inquiry -- Yes, it will definitely work with FFXI.

-custom refesh on flat panels over 15", yes (60 - 75hz only though), lcd displays are much safer for you and your eyes (no x-ray radiation, and it uses white light, not just parts of white[rgb])
-wireless, if you don't already have a wired backbone, and you have more than one comp, it'll be much cheaper than drilling a hole though your house(most likely you'll need a pro, or risk destroying a vital thing).

i forgot to add sound blaster audigy 2, you'll than me later if you have any ieee1394 camcorders, an ipod, or external hdd

Ill chaneg the 15 inch falt screen to a 17 inch normal one.

Ill upgrade the video card to radeon 9800 pro.

Ill upgrade to 80 gigs if i got the cash.

if you have an extra $100-200

              soundblaster audigy 2
              multimedia keyboard

you should also think about office xp(you need word excel power point) and 16x dvd drive bay 1 and 4x dvd burner bay 2(free upgrade now, burns cdr and dvd+rw+r).

later on buy macaffee virus scan apart at best buy or other comp store (includes firewall, costs 45.95 most stores). it will help you a lot, and it includes an ip tracer (i found out yahoo is located in nyc for my area).

Ok, since your getting raped by dell I will try and help you by giving you a few tips. I have been building computers eversince the 486 days and the most important thing in your computer is your cpu, memory, (video card if playing games)... everything else is noise. Building a computer is very tricky cause you gotta know what you are doing, because Speed can get bottlenecked very easily. You really dont need to upgrade your 40 gig HDD unless you do alot of dvd rips and conversions(divx/mpg). Here is a link to one of my favorite sites that help out the noobs :
                http://sharkyextreme.com/guides/MVGS...le.php/3067741

This link will take you to the August Value Gaming PC with a Budget of $1000. It's a very good computer, for the money because they choose the highest quality stuff from the mire of junk floating out there these days.

If you have the guts read up on www.tomshardware.com and www.anandtech.com. They have guides on how to build a computer, then go to www.newegg.com to get your parts and begin your journey of not getting raped.
